10-10-10, 04:31 PM #1Printer Sharing Windows 7 to XP
My system is XP Pro and I am sharing my printers with the other PCs on my home network. I just upgrade my wife's laptop to Win7 and even though I can see the printers on my system I cannot connect to them. I get an error code of 0x0000064a. Anyone else have this issue?

I googled the code and found this:

Re: Printer Sharing Windows 7 to XP
Try Trigger's suggested page and the "admin" option when install/connecting the printer
Otherwise
the computer hosting the printer, in this case the XP machine, will usually provide the drivers to the other systems connecting to it so there might be a driver conflict between the XP Driver and the 7 driver.
Have you thought about a wireless print server? They are not terribly expensive, plug into the USB post on the printer, and connect to the wireless network so that all computers on the network can connect to the printer whether your computer is on or not (no sharing needed).
Something like this
Linksys Wireless-G PrintServer With Multifunction Printer Support WPSM54G Print server - Hi-Speed USB

Even with a print server it looks like there are some 'manual' tweaks necessary - see WPSM54G windows 7 instal print server - Page 4 - Cisco Home Community Thanks I'm getting a print server.

I was faced with the same decision a while back and had a choice of getting a print server or buying a network printer. I ended up buying a network printer (was cheaper than the print server option). Once I got all my machines to Win7, it was a moot point because I could easily share within my 'Home Group', but it took me almost a year to get there. Ended up giving the old printer to the kids and shared it using the Home Group.
