    Urgent GPU help!

So my 8800gt died last night. It started throwing up red snow all over the screen and then locking up.

So I need a new card and i"m not sure I cna get anything decent because my Mobo can't do PCI express 2.0 (at least I think so..)

This is the mobo: Foxconn - Products: Motherboard

This is the 8800gt that I had in it: http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/512-P3-N800-AR.pdf

And this is ideally what I'd like to replace it with: http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/01G-P3-1235.pdf

But I'm pretty sure the 240gt is only PCI 2.0 and I'm pretty sure that I can't run that on my mobo. But I'd really like a second opinion!

From my understanding PCIe 2.0 cards will work in PCIe 1.0/1.1 16 channel slots, though with lower performance.

GReYVee is correct. PCIe 2.0 cards are backwards compatible, but you may not get optimal performance out of them. Although, I'd wager that a 240GT won't come close to maxing out the older PCIe 1.x bus.

    Re: Urgent GPU help!

Thanks you two. I actually went out to a couple used computer parts places and managed to pick up an XFX 8800gt NIB for $50. Slam bam, done and simple. Didn't even have to change drivers

I"m going to get a whole new computer in the next 6-12 months anyway, so a quick fix was fine by me.
