Let's just remember that our behavior is what keeps us most protected. Don't download from untrusted sources, always run your Windows updates, and be careful what you click.

If you do those 3 things without virus software, you are much less likely to get a virus than if you have the best virus software but don't do those 3 things. User behavior is the key. Also, BACK UP YOUR FRIGGIN DATA!

Beyond Windows updates... update your browser plugins. Adobe Reader, Flash, Shockwave and Sun/Oracle Java have been the largest attack vectors in the PC world for the last 18-24 months. Almost more critical than Windows updates since these web technologies can typicallly be exploited by just browsing a website.

yes, yes, yes and hell yes! I have always been very cautious, update very regularly and have not used AV protection on my desktop and only use microsofts security essentials on my laptop. Worked for me so far, oh and not looking for porn helps

If you're getting nailed by malware/viruses looking for porn, you're not doing it right.

I'm still an ESET-Nod32 fan. Runs extremely light, and doesn't bug me with useless notifications. I hardly know it's there except when I boot up, it updates its virus database.
I don't have to disable for games, and I have had 0 issues with it in the last ~3 years I have used it. Great product.
