    Whew

Well, I was replacing my CPU last night, and I turned on my computer on, only to find that I blue screened every five minutes. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Ended up being a virus, I couldn't recover to a partition, so I had to wipe the hard drive using Boot N' Nuke. Not fun, now I have to reinstall everything, need to start keeping backups.

Dammit, now I'm blue screening. Should I try updating my BIOS? It's like two years old. The processor also came out of a gateway I had, and Intel core 2 quad q8200. The mobo on it fried, but if the CPU was fried, it wouldn't have started in the first place, right? The previous processor was a core 2 duo. Do I need to update my BIOS for the new processor?

    I would......

At least look into the MB. It may need a BIOS update to support the CPU.

Yes, the BIOS may not recognize the quad core CPU. What kind of motherboard do you have?

My motherboard is an Asus, the computer came with it, with the dual core. The error I keep getting is page found in nonpaged area. That or irql not less or equal. I think those are BIOS problems, from what I've heard, BIOS updates aren't that hard on Asus mobos.

If a BIOS update doesn't fix it, I'd wager the CPU is fried too. That blue screen you're getting is a pretty vague one. It can mean any number of issues.

yeah, I just looked those two bsod's on a laptop I was working on, ended up being memory, but several of them showed software issues for those errors.
