A full tower is a bit much for just one graphics card. A medium should do just fine.

Too cheap of a case though and you loose out on cooling and the noise factor.

$800 is a tight budget. You can already count out the Fatality card, HD Capture card, SSD drives, 2 TB of storage, more than 4 GB of storage. It just isn't enough of a budget to get a future-proof system that you are dreaming of. Anyways, you can still get a decent gaming rig for $800. The most important place to drop money is your graphics card. You don't want to overspend, but you also don't want something that won't be able to play the latest and greatest games. I recommend the following:
CPU
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-760 Lynnfield 2.8GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80605I5760
Motherboard
Newegg.com - ASUS P7P55D-E LX LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Memory
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL8D-4GBHK
Graphics Card
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100312SR Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
Case
Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Storm Scout SGC-2000-KKN1-GP Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Sound Card - Great deal through 2/24!
Newegg.com - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card
Power Supply
Newegg.com - COOLMAX CUL-750B 750W ATX 12V v2.3 / EPS12V v2.91 SLI/Crossfire ready Modular and Compatible with Core i3/i5/i7 Power Supply
Hard Drive
Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Let's face it... you aren't going to do much better for $800. You simply can't get a "future proof" system with this kind of budget. Will it be way better than what you have? Absolutely! It will also be able to handle the latest and greatest games out there with ease.
If you can recycle some older components, you can put that cost savings back into the system to get a beefier hard drive, extra memory, or put the money right back into your pocket.

I notice Tigerdirect.com has joined with what left of Compusa and opened a few new stores including one in Houston Texas plus I also have a Fry's Electronics nearby too.
