Sandy Bridge is it REALLY worth it?

As im working on my new rig ive come to find myself having a problem deciding what MOBO/CPU i want, Ive always liked EVGA mobos however they dont make one for sandy bridge processors, therefore id go with a Bloomfield, I have also like asus and from what i hear MSI is pretty good, and they both make mobos for Sandy bridge, however im not sure if its worth it, Will i get the same performance out of a Bloomfield and an EVGA mobo over a sandy bridge mobo and CPU?

i7 for sure, but ive heard that asus is sometimes a little rough to work with, (meaning the bios) or just setting them up in general.

Go with the i5 760 or the sandy bridge i5 2500k. Both you can overclock the shit out off and there only 200$. Talk to heavyG about it. Also If you look at the benchmark sticky, it will show how heavy's i5 actually competed with jakts 1000$ i7.

There are companies already selling the updated Sandy Bridge motherboards. The Core i5-2500k is a badass CPU for the money and is the sweet spot for gaming CPUs, as long as you can find a decently priced motherboard.

The Core i5-760 is on the older 1156 platform, but it is also a kick ass gaming CPU. I recently upgraded to the Core i7-870 and while I am getting some of the benefits when encoding videos to .MKV files, I am not seeing any noticeable difference in gaming. I played Mafia II, Bad Company 2, and the Crysis 2 demo and haven't noticed any difference between the i5 and i7.

If you decide to go with the Sandy Bridge setup, I suggest going with the i5 for now. It is cheap and will do whatever you want. Wait until they start releasing some other badass CPUs that support Sandy Bridge, then upgrade from the i5.

Alrighty well ima wait till the end of the month here and see who releases what for the sandy bridge and make my decision from there, On a side note, Overclocking will NOT be on my agenda i do not believe in it nor support it. However if an i5's performance basically matches an i7 then i will definitely start off with an i5 and upgrade later to a newer faster i7.

    Stealth,

I have a i7-2600K and I can honestly say that it is fucking awesome. I would go with ASUS even thought there customer service has sucked during the recall. The thing about the Sandy Bridge arch, is that while it is priced like the old Bloomfield chips it out performs in many cases the X58+Gulftown platform ( i.e. the six core) The cases where this has occured is basically with the 2600K overclocked. I have also heard of 2500Ks doing this. In other words yes I think it is worth it but I would go with the 2500k if your not doing video encoding or anything like that.

I know, right. I mean, I hate free performance gains too. Anybody that does that is just plain wrong.

Is there actually a point to overclocking your CPU anymore though? I mean, I could see maybe RAM or the GPU, but the CPU nowadays.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
