Hard drives
For I am a person with no more memory, and I will be getting around 150 bucks in the summer from lawn mowing insanity and birthday bootie.
So what should I be looking for?
I have no idea on what I'll be wanting to look for speed wise or... anything else related with hard drives.
Alls I know is I need some more space, I only have like 28 gigs left, I think I'm going to cry or something.
So, suggestions, or like, flat out "Buy this" kind of comments, I don't want to ask my brother, cause he'll just end up getting on my PC and deleting everything thinking he made it better.
If there's any important info I should be giving, ask away.
Mmmmn, I realise summer is also a couple of months away, so no "special offer going on right this very moment, get this!" kind of stuff.

RE: Hard drives
dude, 28 gigs is alot...
First question is, what size is the HD you have now?
I personally have an 80 gig drive, and i am nowhere NEAR filling it up. I don't even think i am at halfway filling it up.
$150 can get you a damn good HD, and i would look into WesternDigital.. they are pretty good. I have had mine for 3+ years and have had 0 problems. My 80 gig only cost me around $50-60, so i am sure you can get around a 200 gig HD for that much, if you look.

RE: Hard drives
I have 550 GB on my computer. I bought a Hitachi 250 GB a couple years back for around 100 bucks, then when my Western Digital 40 GB crashed, I bought a Maxtor 300 GB for around 90 bucks. HD's are SO cheap now it's insane. Look at cost per GB, and that'll tell you what the best value is. I wouldn't buy anything with less than 300 GB. Also, only go with an HD that has 16 MB cache. It makes a nice difference in performance and it really doesn't cost much more. Maybe a couple dollars differance. Also, the best thing to come out in the past year are drives with perpendicular writing. It means more efficient reading/writing of the hard drive with more reliability and more speed. As far as brands go, I'd say they're all pretty reliable now. Seagate and Maxtor have some of the best warranties in the business and it's really hassle free if you ever need them to replace a bad hard drive. Go check out www.tomshardware.com to read reviews on different HD's to help you decide which one to pick. Go for it!

RE: Hard drives
I have like a 128 gig atm, but with both battlefields, and plenty of other games on it, ass tons of music, and god knows what else, not to mention all the shit loads of art dealies I have stuffed in it, it's running dry.
Thanks for the advice guys, that Western Digital you linked seems pretty spiffy, I'll check out Toms hardware too.
Mmmmn, Newegg customer comments scare me, I don't know whether I should care about them or not. :?

RE: Hard drives
thats why they're there... to give you doubts. My PSU had kinda bad reviews, but i bought it and it runs like a fuckin champ.
Another thing i would consider is to partition (sp?) your hard drive and wipe it clean. Start from scratch. Yes, it's a pain in the ass... But it's worth it in the end. Get rid of all that junk on your computer, makes your computer run sluggish.
My rig had a lot of shit on it and i had to wipe it clean and start from scratch, but it made a hell of a difference. Not only that, IT FREE'S UP SPACE! Do what i do, go out and buy a 1GB or 2GB flash drive and load all of your music on that. Or if you want to get really fancy, buy an external HD and hook it up. Put your OS, Software, Programs, etc on one hard drive and then put Games, Music, Videos, and all other Misc. shit on the other one.
