Re: Building a new comp what do you think?
True but for 1500 bucks. I would think you could get more system for the buck.
Plus a good rule of thumb with "future proofing your pc." Is always get something 1 step better then what will be ok for now."And the hits just keep on coming." - Tom Cruise, A Few Good Men

Re: Building a new comp what do you think?
Not if your going for the newest stuff. Sorry I haven't read any of this thread. But if your looking to stay in that price range then consider stepping back a generation or two.
Personally I have an ATI 4890.
Newest, No where near it.
Best performance, nope.
Bag for the buck, you bet your ass
MP/P
Marginal product vs the price.
How much am I getting for how much I spend.
Factor you desire, which is pretty much I want to be able to run MS paint and not much else all the way to I want to be able to run shit maxed out that they haven't even made yet!
You have to ask yourself how much satisfaction your going to get form the extra unit of performance. Which is how I came to buy my 400 dollar Acer laptop.
Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AS5552-5898 Notebook AMD Phenom II Triple-Core N830(2.1GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Radeon HD 4250
Is it the best, nope
Fastest, nope
but
I can run everything I want to play at decent levels. Oblivion near max, L4D2 medium, bf2 and PR medium.Dispatch the DooM

Re: Building a new comp what do you think?
No not bad for 1000, reviews leave me a little conserned. You might wanna consider adding a few fans. When people are saying its LOUD and the CPU is running hot... well lets just say those two don't together all that well.
You also only getting intergrated sound so you may want to look into sound cards for an extra 150ish
Didn't look up the specs on the ATI card but the model number is the first sign of where it falls.Dispatch the DooM

Wasn't that you....trying to figure this stuff out and basically stating that you "couldn't be bothered building your own"? Now you're an expert and can "build a custom one better for less"
Interesting.
Just thought I'd point it out since you were really not too into the "advice" you received in your own upgrade thread a few days/week ago simply because it didn't come in at the budget you wanted with the boutique-y parts you desired.

Re: Building a new comp what do you think?
Alundil....the only thing i don't like about custom pc is putting it together. its time consuming pain in the ass of putting it together.
I have never been good at connecting the wiring from the power supply to the board. everything else i know like the back of my hand.
also places like frys and microcenter for $75...you buy the parts and they put it together for you. which i recently find out."And the hits just keep on coming." - Tom Cruise, A Few Good Men

Re: Building a new comp what do you think?
unless you are doing something crazy (water cooling, making sure the power supply wiring is 100% perfect, extra stuff inside, maybe even a aftermarket cpu cooler), it wont take more than 30 mins. Its not hard at all. (this is not taking into account the OS install)
