Right, so for a while now, my mouse has been double clicking. I have a Razer Copperhead that I've had for about 4 years now. Nothing changed software wise when this problem started. Not even a windows update.
I've checked all of the Windows settings, and I'm 99% sure it isn't a problem with Windows. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers for the copperhead. My software profile is currently set to a single click for the left mouse button.
Could this be a sign that the mouse is physically degrading? If so, any recommendations on a new mouse? I'd be looking at something about the same size as the copperhead as it fits my hand very well. Wired only. Programmable side keys would be nice especially since I can program them to use VOIP and TS.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Buttons clicking more than they should, or not at all generally indicates the switches are starting to fail. If it were wireless, I'd say you might have a signal interference issue. My Logitech G5 just started having intermittent issues and I'm replacing it with a G500. My G5 is about 4 years old as well (purchased in Jan 2007). Four years of heavy gaming is a pretty good lifespan for a mouse.

Hmmmm...I'm looking at the Razer Naga at the moment. It's got really good reviews excluding the wireless feature. It's also got switchable grips to fit different handle styles.

Re: Mouse is double clicking.
Why do you people spend so much money on a mouse? Someone please explain this. More buttons fine, why pay more then $15 when you money can be spend on something better. My mouse right here, 10 dollars, walmart. And I can kill just as many people with as the 35 dollar wireless one my roommate has. Plus I don't pay to plaly, plug it in and I don't have to feed it batteries. You never hear mean over voip going AHAHA my mouse is dying, wait up, stop shooting me I have to find a remote control!

I've only ever used wired mice. The naga has really nice DPI, which means that I can keep my in game sensitivity down for better and smoother game control. The programmable buttons are also really nice for playing MMOs and RPGs, and they come in pretty handy when playing shooters, too. This mouse will also last me another 4 years, so the relative cost is pretty low. A good mouse is just like a good pair of socks; it's a sound investment.

A good mouse is like a good bed. You get what you pay for. You can spend a couple hundred bucks and get something to sleep on. It gets the job done. I spend 8-10 hours a day at work on a PC all day (45 hours a week total). I spend 20ish hours a week on top of that work doing homework typically often at my PC at home. In the little free time I get I like to game. Also on a PC. When you add up all those hours you will learn the difference between the $15 mouse and the customized models. My G9 fits my hand perfect. I can adjust the weight and grip and my hand doesn't fatigue from using it. If I use the generic Dell mouse I get hand cramps after a while. Is a fancy gaming mouse necessary for everyone? probably not. But there is a market for it and those of us willing to pay extra for the comfort fuel that market.

Re: Mouse is double clicking.
I have a Logitech G9 and couldn't be more pleased with it.
Easy to switch DPI on the fly, programmable side buttons, 2 different body styles, and a series of weights so you can find just the right feel for you mouse. It also has a 1ms response time (most mice are 8ms) so it does give you an advantage in getting that first shot off which can make all the difference.
When (if) this mouse dies i'll be getting another just like it.

oh I forgot to add. At home I use a Logitech G9 (I don't use wireless for gaming), at work I use a Logitech MX Laser wireless (ergonomic). No one in our IT area or the application development area use the default dell mouse that came with our computers.

Re: Mouse is double clicking.
I don't use a mousepad. They were necessary when the roller ball mice were the best because they would get gunked up easy and needed the mouse pad for traction. With laser optics they track on any surface. I keep Clorox wipes near my PC to clean the surface and just set the mouse on my wooden desk surface.
