Internet speed question.
I was wondering if someone would know the difference between different upload and download speeds. After playing on TPG's new CS:S server my ping was a little bit more than double what it was before. I WAS getting about 20-30 ping on the scoreboard, now its between 55-75 . This is on the no awp/auto server.
Currently im pretty sure my speeds are: 3Mbps download (10Mbps if I'm wrong)
256Kbps upload (512Kbps if I'm wrong)
If the download speed was 15 or 25Mbps and upload 1Mbps would I get my low latency back? Or is it more a question of how much information is going through the hard lines/air waves between me and the other side?
Thanks for any helpful info.

Re: Internet speed question.
Ping, in the most general sense of the word, is the time it takes to send a piece of (arbitrarily small) information from point A to point B over a network. So, think of it like a water hose. When you first turn on the spigot (faucet), it takes 1-2 seconds for the water to come out the end of the hose. No matter how big the hose is, it still takes a few seconds for it to get from point A to point B. This could be due to various issues ranging from routing issues (most likely) to corrupted packets to processing delays.
In layman's terms, there's generally nothing you can do about it.
So to answer your question, unless you're downloading movies in the background while playing CS:S, getting a higher bandwidth (more than likely) won't help.
With computer's it's always a maybe, because there are so many factors that have to be taken into consideration.

Re: Internet speed question.
How well your connection is based on numerous factors.
Your system.
The health of your connection.
The server your connecting to.
The speed of your service from your ISP.
My connection offers download speeds 22mbps down/5mbps.....I am averaging close to the max.
This was from my new laptop connecting via Wireless N to my network. (Houston Test server)
