or, I should say that the 7xxx series cards that Dex will go for in that price range will be out in Q2 2012. There are rumours that some of the more budget cards will be out Q4 2011.

By the time BF3 comes out (first delay is scheduled to be announced this Fall), the 8-9000 series will be out. I'll be building a new rig by then, so I'll throw down for some vid horsepower then.

Going for the 4890 now gives me a few more frames, and the HDMI that I really want. Now I will be able to chill on my couch, and have ~200 gigs of Apple Lossless powered tunes jacked into the back of my receiver, as well as a 50" desktop to play with on my tv. Weeee!!!!!!!!

Yeah by the time BF3 comes out you might even consider an entire system upgrade. Ditch that Socket 775 and DDR2 (Not that your quadcore CPU and DDR2 memory really matter for gaming). Hell those older parts would make a great pure HTPC. So, I would vote crossfire, and then start thinking about a new build.

    Sorta what I was thinking....

My cpu is still quite beastly...at least beastly enough to easily handle BC2, and games of this generation. BF3, I'm sure, will be BC2 +~20%...which would really be pushing it. I had it OC'd to 4.0ghz for a short spell....but never really saw any significant gains (game wise)...only more heat.

Throwing $100 at giving this current machine another year of life is worth more than the $250 it would take to get DX11.....I mostly play BF2 and CS:S anyhoo. I just can't wait to plug ~200gigs of cd's (my entire collection has come off of cd's, and were compressed using Apple Lossless...I've never downloaded a song) into the back of my receiver. The old 5 disc Sony will be gone in less than a week.

Ordered the 4890 this morning, and it should be here in the next day or two.

Yeah, I can't argue that the LGA775 platform still provides more than enough muscle for gaming. I am still running a Core2Duo (forget the model number) but its OCed to 3.0ghz. Still gets the job done. But I also run only a 4850 at stock clocks. It is more than enough for L4D and CSS. I just got BC2 before my PSU bit the dust, so it might give me reason to upgrade soon. Well that or if more than just my PSU broke and I have to upgrade just about everything.... I am thinking of going to AMD. For the price their Quad and Hexa core CPUs are such a good value.

good price... but they also don't even remotely compare to the performance of the intel cpu's. If the bulldozer chips are as good as the hype then that MIGHT change, but unfortunately I'm thinking they are done with the race and are settling for second place and going for the budget side of PC sales.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

    It's dead, Jim.

Card worked great for one day.......today, she wouldn't boot up. According to the beeps from the mb, the VGA wasn't detected.......so it's back to the old 4890 for now. We shall see how Saphire handles it....

Yeah....I got the $100 refurbished one....and after some trouble trying to get the xfire working (games would freeze as soon as I loaded in to a server), I had just the new card running.....and it worked great last night. But today......nada.

I just put a ticket in with Sapphire, so we will see how their customer support is.
