The quest for more...
As an attempt to stay more active in the community.... I will be duplicating my overclock.net posts for my current pursuit. I appreciate comments and concerns, and am happy to answer questions....
for reference, my current post over at the 590 owner forum is here (page 152): NVIDIA GTX 590 Owners Club - Page 152 - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net
So my current quest is to crank the most out of this little 590 I have here....
So here is my status:
trying to test individual overclock settings to push the max stable I can get on stock volts....
So far I have stable 612(stock) with a stable 1850 memory, but I am still pushing the memory.....
Will post screenshots when I combine them later.
not stable: 612(stock) and 2004 mem
stable: 612 and 1950 mem
I slaved my old gtx 275 for physx.... in batman arkam asylum I am getting 20-30 more fps... and no dips in fps ever, a rock solid 80.....-- Intentionally Left Blank --

Take these at a glance, I wasn't trying for high scores (was super multi-tasking at the same time):

Re: The quest for more...
For my uses a 590 beats 2 580's because of cuda programming for my job (school work as well) and the motherboard I have does not support sli (without ugly software hacks).
FPS in L4D2 sits at a cool 120 fps with dips to 80 when being hoarded.... but my eyes can tell the difference and I get headaches with anything 60 and lower.... a trained eye one could say. Similar story to sound, but we wont get into that.
My current monitor fits my needs as I transport my machine and setup almost daily to various locations. I can carry my entire setup in two trips... built a custom suitcase to hold my keyboard/mouse/etc. But I also have a second display (Samsung 206BW) that I have rotatable for coding long scripts and classes.
I am sorry if I am sounding harsh, but I read your post as rude, which if you did not intend then I am sorry for saying so.-- Intentionally Left Blank --

Hmm... I break 11k with my two GTX 570s with 3DMark 11 and 42k with 3DMark Vantage. I also run constant 299 FPS in Left 4 Dead 2, and I have a 27" monitor @ 2560x1440. It seems like you are getting bottle necked somewhere. Possibly with your CPU. Even your 3DMark results are saying your GPU score is lower than it should be, but CPU is fine. Can you get that CPU up to 4.0 GHz?
The GTX 590 is essentially two downclocked GTX 570s on a single PCB. Having two GTX 570s should yield better results in almost every benchmark/game due to the higher clocks. Having two GTX 580s is even better, and the GTX 580s have incredible overclocking potential.
Bottom line, if you are not using nVidia surround display or a higher res monitor, you are not really going to benefit from the GTX 590. A single GTX 580 would have been the better option. Since you say you use the additional Cuda Cores, I guess that is okay, but for gaming with low res, it seems a bit overkill.

Re: The quest for more...
Well in L4D2 I run all settings maxed, 16XQ CSAA antialiasing, 16X Anisotropic are the two big ones. I also force ambient occlusion to Quality in the nvidia control panel and have all texture settings to prefer high quality instead of just quality. Also I have 8x supersampling for antialiasing - transparency. I don't think many people use these features, but they make such a visual difference in games..... if you have the performance to sacrifice that is.
My Cpu being a Phenom II does bottleneck the card, its a fact.... I get low scores in 3dmark because 1. its optimized for intel and 2. my cpu cant power the card fast enough.
It is a design flaw with the cores of the Phenom/Athlon 64 line of chips. Bulldozer is the first redesign of the core in a long time, which I plan on upgrading to.
So yes an intel chip will beat me in tests and benchmarks, but I am hopefull and ready for a bulldozer in-place upgrade......Last edited by rush2049; 06-22-11 at 05:12 PM.

Re: The quest for more...
Allright, switching from GPU overclocking to ram overclocking.
I have G. Skill Ripjaw 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 ram. (F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL).
I own two of those kits, making it 4x2GB
So my 3.5 ghz overclock makes it simple to lower the multiplier and achieve 1600 evenly, but because the phenom II's don't like bandwidth as much as tighter timings..... here goes nothing.
