Re: Do You Like Your ISP?
Sigh I really miss my FiOS - had a HUGE pipe for $50 a month and my connection to everything was fantastic.
I currently have Comcast and have had good / bad expeiences with it (just depended on which apartment / house I'm in).
Right now I'm having issues with random spikes of 1 - 5 seconds, which I know they will never fix, especially since I believe most of my issues is the extremely old coax lines in my house. My parents have it at their house and it works pretty well, and have never had any spike issues. Although I might have them switch to U-Verse in the near future (dad wants YES Network).
Another issue I have with Comcast is my online streaming through fancast / HBOgo. I pay for HBO, Showtime, HD, and DVR. The rental company pays for basic so I'm just paying for the additional services. Even though I have my own separate account (with a different account from the bulk account) they can't / will not give me an email address to watch any of their streaming content (which is utter bullshit). When I try to register for an email address it shows my land-lord's email, but he doesn't remember the info, and he can't reset the password without talking to the bulk account manager, and she doesn't know how to fix it. Not to mention that he's been trying to call the rep back and she hasn't been answering for the past week. I'm currently part-timing for him to help him set up modems and be a temp secretary for a few days this week, so I get to try and deal with this. Also it turns out that people can't figure out how a bulk account works because when I call to try and talk to a different account rep I get transfered from place to place while they try to figure out who to talk to, I was even transfered to Chicago today - and the woman couldn't figure out how to transfer me back to knoxville (A total of 9 transfers before I hung up). So right now, I'm obviously having a horrible time with Comcast.

Re: Do You Like Your ISP?
I experience the lag spikes with or without Netflix and Pandora. They only make it worse, especially Pandora.
After two more hours on the phone today, ATT tier 2 support said "We have looked into the issue. It's not a problem with our network." Yeah, right...the two next route ATT IP hops after the line leaves my neighberhood are timing out on every trace route I run and somehow it's not their problem!?
Their "retention" department upped my connection to up to 24 mbps down and up to 3 mbps upload at the same price. I'm not sure that will make a difference as I am still being routed the same way. I would think that higher speed through the same overloaded ip's would still bottleneck things but I'll see tonight.
I'm really dreading having to switch to Charter. It sounds like they have their own issues.

Never had problems with ATT Uverse internet but then again I live like 500ft away from the VRAD, always a consistent 32M syncrate. As to their outbound routers, it's dropped a couple of times but never had an outage last for more than an hour, only once I was tempted to pick up the phone. Also it probably helps that my city hosts an ATT regional HQ...

The upgraded speed made no difference tonight. In fact, it was worse than the last two nights. It stated around and over 100 ms for the most part. I could care less what my ping # is but it does get to be hardly playable over 95 ms. I played BF2 on the old TTP server with a ping of 15 ms. People used to ask me if I had the server in my back yard :-)
