    Processor question

I am running a i7 920 right now with memory @ 1600. I have a chance to pick up a new AMD Phenom-II X6-1090T Black Edition Processor for real cheap but specs says will run my DDR3 only at 1333. Is it worth it? Is it an upgrade? I would have to pick up a new motherboard too so with that in mind.

    Thx,

    Rem

Even with 6 cores, it's actually a downgrade for you in many cases. Without even taking into account your memory.

Also... note that those charts can be a bit misleading if it is your first time looking over them. Not every comparison is a "larger is better" format. A lot that seem like AMD wins due to a misleading chart are actually negatives. Power consumption, render time, etc. show a larger bar for AMD, but in reality you want a smaller bar for those.

Yeah. I wouldn't drop a dime "upgrading" your system if you can get better performance in almost everything and lower power cost with what you have now. Though, if you can get it really cheap as you mentioned, it would be decent for a second system if you need one. You will see very similar performance to your current setup.

Remy your processor is great, without a doubt. I know I wouldn't move to AMD X6. Now, bulldozer... that might be a different story when it comes out.

    Chiming in with a yes.

Likely it will last into Bulldozer's lifespan too; software needs to catch up again I think.
