Internet help
Ok so I know some of you guys work for network giants. I.E. Comcast time warner whatever. Now my question is this....
My internet has the most spastic internet speeds it is ridiculous I mean the other day when I got home form school I got 8 down later that night I was 780kbs down. Now my question is is this my ISP fucking up or is it my network? I currently have a wireless N network.
My service provider is comcast.

If you are using cable (which I assume you are since it is Comcast), your DL speed is dependant on how much bandwith other subscribers in your aarea are actually using.
For example, in the early afternoon, you may have a killer connection. But when everyone gets home from work, eats dinner, then jumps online... your connection speed will decrease.
The only other thing would be if you are under a router and someone else on the router is stealing your bandwith. I would even check to make sure your wireless security is setup. I have my wireless network restricted by approved MAC addresses.
I have cable with the 10MB down/1 MB up. Every now and then, I will notice my DL speed is not as fast as it should be. But 99% of the time I am more than happy with the connection.
If the cause turns out the be the number of cable subscribers in your area, unfortunately, your only real option is to switch with DSL. Your DSL connection is not dependant on the number of subscibers in the area. It should always be the same. If it is not, contact your service provider.
Hope this helps.

Re: Internet help
i would just like to add that comcast suckith a nut. they bought up my cable provider awhile back and I went from a couple hours down over an entire year to having hours of downtime everyweek. And they NEVER know about it - everytime its gotta be a problem on my end, and we need to reboot/recycle/turnoff/turnon/spin on my head before they
order a truck to come out to fix it... then its just back a 1/2 -2 hours later.
the connections sporadic and will just recycle every so often dropping me offline -
my bandwidth use to support myself, my wife, and 2 children playing / downloading and whatnot, since the switch it barely handles 2 of us doing anything.
Id like to keep cable, as we have very few folks on my loop; and when its working correctly its pretty damn fast. I keep hoping they will magically sort out the problems, but i probably already should have fired them
