    left4dead.exe has encountered a problem

I got left 4 dead on christmas, and have been having this problem with it ever since.

After installation, whenever I try to run it at all, it gives me the error message "Left4dead.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". I have the same problems whenever I try to run TF2 (Which is my only other source/valve game).

I've been looking through this forum and various other forums for people with the same problem, but nothing I've found and tried seems to work, so I'll ask the same question they all did, but give you guys my dxdiag.

As for the fixes that I've already tried, I've reinstalled the games multiple times, verified the integrity of game cache, deleted the l4d local files and redownloaded them, uninstalled and reinstalled steam, installed the latest versions of directX, and I'm pretty sure another thing or two, but I'm willing to try any fix again.

I'm pretty sure this isn't a hardware or driver issue. I got GTA4 as well, and before running that (Which works) I updated my drivers, and my hardware is all new, I meet all the requirements.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to look at my problem, hopefully the fix is quick and I just missed something small.

Ok, do you get a 'details' button when you get the error? If so, can you copy/paste what's in there?

Thank you! The fix in the video worked, and I didn't even need to disable a sound card.

Five days of frustration solved in two minutes... haha

    Thanks again

I just tried what was shown in the video and sadly it didn't work. the message i get is pretty much the same as corpsy except that the modname is unknown. any ideas?

    i have xp: home,
    amd athlon am2 5000+
and an nvidia geforce 8200 (it's on an evga nvidia 730a motherboard)

I just got through upgrading my motherboard, cpu and ram to a level where i can play left4dead so now having this issue is a bit of a let down. I still need to update windows, although I'm not sure if that'll do anything.

My drivers are all updated, i have directx 9.0c so I'm at a bit of a loss as to why it wont run.

If you upgraded all of that you should also reinstall your OS. If you don't I would expect a few other errors to also appear out of the woodwork with other applications also.

Unhappy left 4 dead has encountered problem

Hi, i'd got left 4 dead recently, but has encountered a similar (if not same) problem as corpsy. Tried the link to the video, but think it was removed or something.

    Any help? Thanks.

Go into steam, select Left 4 Dead, delete local content and then re-download.
