    How to play LAN the old way BEFORE the New Patch?

    Alright.

    BEFORE the New Patch was released on 14th January, i was able to launch Left 4 Dead WITHOUT running/logging in Steam.

    However, AFTER the New Patch was installed, i tried running L4D, and when it got to the Loading Screen...the game exited to Desktop and an error box pops up and says:

    "steam is not running. you must start steam in order to play this game"

    So now...my cousins cant play with me.

    i have taken a look at John_klampenborg LAN guide...but it seems rather wordy and i still don't understand after reading through it.

    Is it still possible to play on LAN with my Cousins through Hamachi of course, WITHOUT Steam?

    you're better off posting in there and asking John, I'm sure if you read it slowly and do it step by step rather than reading it all in one go and going back and trying to remember it then it'll be a little easier. John's a good guy though, I'm sure he'll talk you through any bits you still don't understand.
