Posting what your system details would probably help. My only guess with this information is your system isn't up to par with the requirements.

You'll need to increase your RAM to at least 1.5gigs or 2gigs. Your OS is taking up a good 128mb or so, the game uses anywhere from 300mb to 500mb, so you're running out of memory creating lag.
As well post your video card or what kind of graphics you have by going to:
Command Prompt
Type in 'dxdiag'
Go to display.
Tell us what it says in the first top left corner, all of the details.

Ok im new here, i dun think its nice to create so many threads so i would post here since im having the same problem... I dun face much lag while starting up the game/in the single/multiplayer selection screen... but whenever i wanna join people's game, it takes uber long time to load, the loading screen turns red when the bar hits around 80% mark, but the l4d circle on top right is still turning.. When i play single player, i am able to start playing the game, but its lagging like no bodys bussiness.... below are my comp specs help me see if i am able to play this game...

It would probably be a video card problem. The game intro and game menus are in fact high quality video files playing in the background - they're not having to be 3D rendered or anything, so all you're witnessing is your PC effectively running a DVD. Once you enter the game, the 3D rendering comes ito your effect - this is what pushes your video card and is probably why you're experiencing lag.
zzdiaozz, your system needs some serious upgrading to play this game. First off, you have a Celeron processor - these will not cut it in any of todays games and will even struggle to handle games from 2 years or so ago. Your RAM needs to be upgraded to at least 1GB (prefferably 2GB) to get the best performance from this game as well. Worst of all you NEED to get a graphics card. You're using onboard Intel graphics and quite frankly, I'm suprised you can so much as run the game with this. Onboard graphics are the absolute worst you can get for gaming. If you can post your Motherboard name (a free application called PC Wizard will be able to tell you this), then I can try and suggest some upgrades for you , but by the looks of things, you're running on quite a dated system, so I'm not sure how upgradeable it'll be...
jhinnotobi, your Processor is fine, though I would suggest upgrading your RAM to at least 1GB (again, preferrably 2GB for best performance), and preferrably your video card too, to experience fluent, high setting gameplay (the 7300 isn't really a very good card). If you could upgrade this to something like an 8600GT, you'd see a massive performance increase.
Hope this helps you guys
