Should I get L4D for PC?

The title does say it all, but let me explain a little.

I have L4D for the Xbox, but I hate the idea of having to pay to play online. Plus, there's a world of cool stuff to do on the PC version (console and mods, for instance) that's not possible for Xbox. What's even better? The price of L4D is coming down, and right now it's around $30 from what I've checked. So the questions I pose are these:

    1. Does it cost to pay online for PC?
    2. Do you have to have/deal with Steam?
    And, ultimately...
    3. Should I get L4D for PC, or wait for L4D2?

I believe I have a computer that can handle it well enough if I do, though I probably don't have a mic. Any ideas for mics would also be welcome.

    1. No, other than your regular internet costs.
    2. Yes...?
    3. Get both.

I play on both, but I prefer PC surprisingly. I never play PC games.

I have the xbox cersion, but if it wasn't for my friends on it I would much prefer the superior PC version.

And I agree with what TEETH said about your questions.

    Ummmm.... wait a bit, actually.
Play the xbox version until you absolutely cant play, or stand it anymore.

I have it for both - and its pretty frickin awesome on the PC. however, getting a proper pc, fixing/upgrading your pc, &tc, is so annoying and a task in itself. Xbox is just buy, put it in, and go. simple shit for the simple minded.
Its also hard to switch from console to a pc if you generally dont use pcs for gaming. I had a hard time, I still do, but practice makes perfect
Mods are UNBELIEVABLY awesome though. It sucks that xbox doesnt get all these fun things (like for instance, hunters yell "COOKIES" when they pounce and "OMNOMNOMNOM" cause I have a cookie monster mod ^.^)

    1. absolutely free.
    2. Yes, you HAVE to deal with steam. theres no loophole or other way around.
    3. Im actually planning on getting l4d2 for xbox.

(good) mics are more expensive for PCs. I love xbox for the reason that the mics are pretty damn cheap. I dont have a headset now, but my laptop does have a built in mic. not as good as a headset, but it gets the job done.

Summed up - Get it, but not now.
and when you do/if you do, you can always switch back & forth from pc to xbox (like me! ^.^)

    Thanks for the replies.

Got another quick question about Steam, since I've never used it or anything like it. Does it install on your computer when you install the game? Or do you have to go online and download it or something?

    either one is fine.

You should download it before though, just to get it out of the way.

actually - get it right now, even. it couldnt hurt to get it before you even have l4d for pc. (i got steam before I bought l4d)

you can get a feel for the community & whatnot.

I used to hate steam, but it's grown on me over the years. I think you'll actually like it. You can add friends, join groups, and see L4D stats. Plus you can play anywhere you find a computer that is up to the task and has an internet connection. Simply download steam, login, and download the game.

I am not a console guy, so I would say get L4D for PC now. It's on sale for $24 or so on steam right now. In addition, we play 8v8 versus matches on the PC version which are very intense. Some of the mods are what keep the game fresh for me.
Gaming, it's wuts for dinner :P
