    Cant play online anymore.

    Hey guys,

Yesterday my son and I cant play any online L4D.

When we try it also kills the internet so I have to reboot the DSL modem and router.

I click on survival and quick game and it finds no servers, and the same thing happens on his machine.
Looking in the server browser does no good cause nothing comes up on any of the tabs.

We have played every day since L4D came out but now we are screwed
Already tried deleting this file and that in steam but no use.
    Reinstalled both steams and nothing.
    Reinstalled both L4Ds and nothing.

I found some sites that say its the router that cant take the traffic and it needs to be rebooted or upgraded...but Its never been a problem "Linksys gwt54 v6" Thinking this might be getting old I hooked 4 computers and a wireless laptop to it with some guys and we played Call of Duty Mod War on the net for about 6 hours straight with no problems.

This all started after the last update was downloaded.
I am PISSED we have to use Steam and FUME-IN PISSed Steam crapped out on us.

Our system specs are the same:
    Windows XP "always updated"
    AMD Phenom 9850
    2 GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2
    BioStar TForce A78XA-A2T
    Pioneer BlueRay
    XFI Platinum "newest drivers"
BFG NVidia GTX 275 896 MB "july 2 or 4th drivers"
    Sidewinder X8 mouse
    Saiteck Eclipse II Keyboard
    24 in Dell Monitor
    Logitech 5.1
    Linksys gwt54 v6 "newest firmware"
Siemens SpeedStream 4100 DSL modem With AT&T 6.0 Mbps down and 768 Kbp up.

I have tried disabling anti-virus and spyware tools.
Ran a virus check and spyware check and nothing to speak of.

I think Ive tried everything to get our favorite game working in multiplayer but it just wont let us do it anymore so if anyone has any ideas to fix this mess please speak up.

    !!!!Please HELP ... !!!!!

Are you able to play Single Player?

Another thing you can try is to foward the posts for Steam, since it appears to be a connection issue.

"The following ports must be open in your firewall and router for Steam and Steam Games to work:

UDP 1200 (used for friends service)
    UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
    TCP 27020 to 27039 inclusive
TCP 27040 and 27041 only for CyberCafe Owners

Computers running Dedicated Servers need these ports open:

UDP: 27015 and 27020 (default HLDS, SRCDS and HLTV port)
    TCP: 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)"

    Yeah single player works well.

The thing that gets me is right after that last L4D patch things went south fast.
OMG steam is updating its self right now. "I hope it doesn't try to kill me "

Guess I better contact the steam people.

So are you going try forwarding those ports to see if it helps?

I heard that was only if you were running a ded-server.

    I just want to play.

Dont know that would help but I will give it a shot.

Yes, you do have to do that if you are running a server, BUT I have had people here who tried it and it resolved their issue, that is why I suggested it.

I DONT have my ports forwarded, and I have no problems. I am just suggesting things to try.

I have the newest router firmware.
I tried the port forwarding, Even including DMZ.

Then plugged the modem straight to my computer and played a round of Call of Duty Mod War multiplayer, exited out of COD then Started steam, logged on, it popped up the steam browser "all looked well" I started L4D, I clicked survival/quick match then I got the disconnected from server error again. That all kills my internet connection

I have reinstalled steam and L4D. I dont have any user maps installed or skins or mods, its all straight off the CD except what ever that last patch contained.

My router works great also my modem, This all started after last weeks L4D patch. How can I get back to pre-patch?
This really sux cause I play every day __untill the last patch that is__

And the Steam Help Ticket guy is about as much help as Zoey during her girlie time

Unfortunately, you can't roll back to a previous version. Even if you could, you would not be able to join any servers because you would probably get kicked for a version conflict error.

Have you already tried deleting the ClientRegistry.Blob file and let it recreate?

Have a read through this and see if any of it applies to you. It may be something as simple as adjusting your MTU size.
