unlimited ammo on 360
I joined a public game of survival a couple days ago and everyone had unlimited ammo. The ammo counter would not count down so we just kept on blasting away....forever. I ended up quitting right before 12:22 because I didn't want my highest time to be from cheating.
How does someone enable unlimited ammo on the console? I don't want to do it but just curious how that is possible?
I gotta say it though, having an unlimited ammo automatic style grenade launcher REALLY KICKS ASS!

It happened again last night. I hopped into a public survival game and there was unlimited ammo. I stayed with the people for a while doing different maps. It got boring after a while so I burnt everyone LOL.
I got video evidence of it but I'm waiting for photobucket to come back online so I can upload it and show it here.

I've already explained it in another thread but I'll do it again.
If you play on the PC you have access to the console and can input certain commands that allow you to change certain aspects of the game. You can spawn infected, you can spawn items anywhere you want, and as you've seen you can make it so you never have to reload. If you care to learn about it in detail see this page: Console commands - The Left 4 Dead Wiki - Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Survivors, Infected, walkthroughs, news, and more
Now these things aren't supposed to work on the Xbox version of the game, especially over live. However it is sometimes possible to do things you aren't supposed to do through the use of a modified save file. This method has been used in a lot of games, a good recent example is Borderlands where you now have a whole community of users running around with "modded" guns which are so overpowered that they throw off the entire balance of the game itself.
Modified save files are also why your seeing things like this in L4D2 now. This is basically how it is done:
1. Transfer your save file from the Xbox HDD to a PC with the transfer cable that is supposed to be used to move data to another Xbox 360 HDD.
2. Once you have the file on your PC you can use an application to edit it.
3. With L4D2 you want to bind certain commands to a button on the controller. So you could make the "X" button spawn tanks, the "y" button spawn your favorite gun, the "RB" bumper could be used to turn on unlimited ammo.
4. Transfer save file back to xbox HDD.
5. Have fun screwing with people online and cheating for achievements.
The sad part about the whole thing is console commands could be a blast in a friends only game if they weren't abused. I've always said that I would love to be able to play a round of versus mode with a human playing as the director choosing the spawn location of everything from tanks and witches to medpacks and ammo piles.
Now for some good news, the exact same problem was in L4D1 shortly after it was released and once it started begin widely abused it was patched out. So be expecting a patch at some point for this, maybe before the DLC comes out if we are lucky.

Anyone looking to abuse it will just search the internet and find out how to do it anyway. On top of that it requires the use of a special cable..it is not like a kid will read my post and know how to do the things I'm talking about.
Plus from what I've read about the subject there isn't a free program with a GUI out there yet. You can buy some application from some shady guy for $50 which has a GUI and I'm sure that's what most people are doing. All told you'll end up paying more than you did for the game to hack your save files.
So yea, that excludes most of the kids and just about everyone else. The small minority that do find my post and want to go a head and try to do it are just going to use their google-fu anyway so not much point in editing my last post imo. If anything it is helping because this page will end up near the top of the search results without including the specific details on how it is done.
