I choose double pistols because when blasting off in rapid fire it really slows down all SI including tanks while doing damage.
Ya sure it means im not getting most of the credit fo kills, but my team luvs it when they get keep getting easy kills due to slowed and already damaged SI. I let them have all the credit and i keep my mouth shut because thats what pumps people up. Momentum can make any team better...
Also rapid fire double pistols mean more chance to headshot/hurt more commons.!!!WiCkEd VOooOdooooO TerRrroRR!!!

I almost always go for the melee weapons, however the first map of Dead Center, I always grab double pistols. I know how much people love whoring the Smoker under the ledge. Tanks, on the first level of DC, which occasionally love popping out at the beginning, who doesn't like meleeing a Tank? But granted all you get are melee weapons and double pistols, pistols seem more suitable. If there's a Tank and I haven't found the room with the Deagle yet, not even gonna check, I normally run up ahead, bait the Tank towards the two fire room doors, shake him and get back to my team.
If I play as SI first on DC1, before even setting up, I make a quick check of the nearby rooms while still in Ghost Mode for supplies, more important the Magnum. Saves me the trouble of checking the rooms and getting left behind if I know its not there, and if it is, I know exactly where.
All other maps, weapon combos, and modes, I use melee weapons no matter what, even the axe and guitar, even though I hate them. -_-
Maybe its just me but I don't think shotties, even the auto shotties are that great for getting a horde off of you. Yeah sure 10 shots but when the initial horde is somewhat dead and you got like 10 more armless zombeis smacking you and hindering your movement, after those 10 shots, you're caught reloading.
I think both snipers are the ultimate horde-clearing weapon, one shot kill on any Common/Uncommon(Riot cops in the back of course) on any mode, any difficulty, any map. Gathering up a crapload of zombies with Boomer bile, Hunting and Tactical rifles get read of those 20+ zombies in less than 5 seconds. I don't even scope in with the rifles anymore, straight up hipfire always, that extra second wasted in scoping in would've been an extra shot that could've killed the Smoker that backed up into cover.
Melee Weapons > Deagle > Double Pistols > Pistol
I think my favorite melee weapons have to be the Nightstick(fastest melee weapon, can kill Expert Tank in 5 or 6 seconds without Molotov aid), Machete, Crowbar, Katana.
Sure if you have double pistols or a Deagle, they can help you when you're incap, but I do just fine getting hordes off me when I'm incapped with one pistol. Shoot the legs, it does wonders.

Try aimming lower and blowing off all their legs in one shotgun blast. Lets see a melee weapon do that.
Melee weapons are overated. Sure its great for really bad moments or when being on team that can't clear each other worth shit.
But all weapons have their ups and downs depending on the map and which combo you are using.
Example being the Parish 4, the best combo here for me would be double pistols and a shotty.
And another example is Swamp Fever 2, the best combo here for me would be a rifle (sniper or automatic) and a melee weapon.

Well, its all about preference really. I used to be a shotgun whore when I first started playing, then seeing how much better the SMGs were than the pump and chrome shotties, I lost interest in them. Over time, the automatic rifles won my heart over the auto shotties and now I love and only use sniper rifles.
If I don't have to, I won't take pistols over melee, but that's just how I play. Overrated or not, gets the job done for me.

Personally, it's just a matter of taste. A machete has greater performance than a bat but since both of them can kill multiple CI in one swing, the difference between the two is only skin deep. When I get a melee weapon, I try to go for something that isn't as popular like the chainsaw and katana but is still pleasing to me; fire axes and crowbars for me please.

Agree'd. It's all about weapon setups. But it's also about how to use em. Big open map: Machine gun + Melee wpn. Close-quaters: Shotgun + Melee wpn. And map mixed with those 2 settings: Shotgun + Pistol. But again if you have 3 shotguns in your party you might want a machine gun.
