Team Vs Pub game strategies (Should there be a difference?)

Do you think it's best to use different strategies in public games then you do with a team of friends? I think the obvious answer is yes. However, it doesn't seem to be so clear cut. I can't tell you how many times I've had someone in a public game INSIST that we use the same strategy that they use with their friends. Often these strategy are complex, and the people insisting upon using them fail to consider the skill level of the players on our team. (like the kid who keeps singing about what infected he gets in a prepubescent voice)

I usually agree for the sake of keeping the team together, but things rarely work out. Most people in pub games just aren't good enough to follow complex strategies.

I don't play campaign, but here are some basic strategies I use in pub games for Vs and Scavenge.

Vs: As infected, I usually let someone else pounce first and try to grab the survivors that come to help. As survivors, I grab a magnum, a machine gun and keep my ears open. I focus on staying with the team and freeing them as they get grabbed

Scavenge: As infected, I avoid trying to guess which can they'll go for first. Instead, I found a high spot and watch the survivors. I've found that sometimes patience pays off. Alot of teams start out organized only to split up quickly. As survivors, I simply try to stay as close as I can to all my teammates so I can save them lol.

Of course, in both modes in pub games, sometimes all you have to do is jump the guy who runs off.

I suppose I could be wrong. There could be some awesome strategies out there. What do you guys think? Is it a good idea to come in and push a strategy on your team in a pub game?

I think, that it may not be the skill lvl of the other players on your team. The plan may be a good one its just too difficult to say everything in a way that everyone gets it.

There are some strategies that are fairly well known, like the stairwell in the Plantation finale, and the different areas to defend in the Dark Carnival finale to name a few. The only problem I ever have is when that one guy wants to run the show, but his strategy is horrible. As far as actual playing goes, with friends you have time to mess around and have fun. In a pub game though, I feel people should be a little more serious. Not gung ho concentrated on perfection, but not running around messing up the team either.

Yeah most of those aren't a problem. People usually follow you to those places without having to be asked

I've defiantly had to follow some stupid plans to keep the team together. I %100 agree that pub games are the place to be serious. If I'm gonna mess around, I'm gonna do it with friends who know I'm just joking. FAR too many people seem to do the opposite!

I don't have a team of friends that I regularly play with, usually the game looses it's magic if we keep playing always under the same conditions, so I play with pub players.

I am aware of most strategies in all maps but I only apply them when I see that my team mates would roll with that. Most of pub players aren't aware of them so I usually play on instinct of the moment, which for me is what keeps the game interesting and unique every time you play it.

For example, most people know that attacking in group in versus is the way to go, but if a survivor is alone and we are the only ones with enough spawn time to grab him then we should go for it. So every rule and tactic in this game has it's exceptions and we should know when to apply it.

About playing with team mates, I usually don't like this groups who always play with friends, manly because they are stuck with their routine and it works very well agaisnt pubs and all, but if they play alone with a bunch of pubs they tend to literally ragequit very quickly because the others don't follow his routine.

I actually dont mind people using my teams tactics and strategies. Its actually kind of flattering, though most people fail to execute it and/or dont know that our team knows a counter for it as well.

In pub games without friends, its kinda hard to do any kind of plan so I just wing it with whoever I am with.

I've never really thought about it, but that's probably why I don't like playing with teams.

I completely agree with you I cant tell you how many times I get some rubbish player, who likes to tell us what to do because of his "experience" with this plan. Also, some players don't have mike's so it's hard to tell them what to do. The best thing to do if you in a pub or with you friends for that matter. match as infected is push them back when they push up;IMO. As Survivors it's simply as stay together.
