We play drunk l4d2 games all the time. They are still competitive, but they are drunk and funny as hell at the same time.

I think a lot of people think that we ONLY play super competitive and critic every single hit. That is not the case. More often then not, we are just playing like you all used to play. Like Civil said the disagreement will always be there, that is just part of the game. But the belittling and elite attitudes are gone. Sadly I'll be gone this Saturday and I have a feeling there will be a lot of old faces playing again. Please send me an invite, I'd love to play with all of you.

And if that's the case then you are one of the very few who do. Ira is the only other player I've played with that would consistently say things like this, which is the main reason why I prefer being on his team(aside from Bunni, sorry Ira, but Bunni and I have the exact same train of thought when playing l4d and that makes our team pretty decent when two people are thinking the same way about stuff). Cause no matter how shitty I'm playing that game(or anyone else on my team) I still get game defining hits cause he's coordinating the team well.

I don't think anyone will disagree about you being an asshole haha. Honestly though, if we played L4D more like CS then teams would do a little better. There's just a separate level of coordination with cs that I usually never find in L4D games(on both sides of the map not just SI). I'm not saying we have to micro manage every hit or every map, but a base call would make a world of difference.

And I think this is where the problem occurs as many have stating in various ways. You are not always going to agree with how your teammates play the game, but that is what makes this game more teamplay oriented then many other games at TPG. You have to communicate with your team and come to agreements on how to hit or how to play a scenario. Though there is NO TIME to argue strategy in game, that is why many of us have just laid the blanket across all kinds of hits. Attack with your team at the same time. There are times for going in alone or ditching a hit, but a good team will communicate that.

What I don't want to happen with all these OG's potentially coming back, is what happened with Kraker when he came back to play from his year long hiatus. This is in no disrespect to Kraker, but he assumed that only his way was going to work. Over that period of time that he was gone from the game, people gained new ideas on how to play, so when he first joined he was disagreeing with strategy and basically trying to implement his way that worked for him in the past on his entire team. Long story short, the teams I was on with him were very disorganized cause there were so many different opinions.

It's all about not being narrow-minded. That goes for active players and non-active players alike. The key is to work together and communicate with your team. I'm telling you right now that the active players have a blue print already in place of how they play this game. If a player that hasn't play in a significant period of time comes into their first game and starts telling the team what to do and that they are wrong, then of course there is going to be drama. Same goes for the active players telling a player who just came back that all their strategies are old and out-dated.

As a team you need to work through that and find a common ground. It might be awkward to try a new hit, but you will find out if it works. I can tell you right now, there are things that DO NOT work and have become common sense for majority of players. (Going in by yourself) But if Adre has a call for No Mercy 3, when the SV go back over the White Truck to the Garage with ammo, then don't shut him down. Listen to him and try the hit out. Of course there are so many variables that could go wrong with the hit, but if you have a positive mentality and do everything you can to follow the call, then maybe it will work out perfectly. That's the beauty of this game. It all depends on how effectively you hit as a team.

No worries...I always try - extra emphasis on 'try"- to communicate what where and when. Sometimes it works great, others not so much. The main point your post raises is that players gel with other players in different ways. For me there are players I love to play with but we just don't gel that great for whatever reason. It's not an inter-personal issue, I genuinely like these guys and enjoy playing with them, but we end up being on different pages in game which can lead to unstellar results.

Doesn't stop me from playing with them for a second - but it does take recognition of the issue and adjustments in how I approach the game when we are on the same team.

    Re: L4D2 TPG Style?

I agree with the Kraker thing. It had nothing to do with Kraker himself. Only that he didn't realize that strats had evolved in the year that he took off. What worked well then no longer worked. I don't know how it works in other games but with L4D2 we're always seeing new permutations of attacks. How long ago was it that we were trying the charge forward and off the building at the top of no mercy exclusively? Now we have three different types of death charges there including off the side and the back of the building coming off the railing. There's a bunch of new little ideas on where to play a tank, how to get death charges, etc. The game evolves a tiny bit every now and then.

I love to try new stuff. I despise the same... thing... over... and over... again... I don't even drive home the same way from work every day. Can't stand repetition. You got a new strat, go for it. I'm game.

Proudest game I ever played I think was me and a few other average players (sorry if you remember the game and think you aren't...) against a hocus led team. Dark Carny. It wasn't an all star squadron on the other team but it was a tough team. I said it at the beginning of the game and I repeated it all through the first map where we got hit hard and left wondering where our asses were... they didn't even have the courtesy of handing them to us. They just lopped em off and kept on going.

Start of map 2 I started calling (and we ALL know how rare that phenomenon is... I hate calling) and kept repeating "If we are going to win we can't do what they expect. We have to hit them in unexpected places at unexpected times." We started doing just that. We started hitting in places we would never normally hit. We would hit together and then rotate spawns for a bit. We put them on the defensive because it was something they didn't expect. It was something new. And it worked. We wound up winning by a slim margin. And I was ecstatic. You don't beat a good, solid hocus led team with a bunch of rag-tag b-teamers very often so when you do it's party time.

Just goes to show that this game is a lot more than just same hit. same place. same time. Sometimes it's playing against expectations, even if it's not the accepted norm.

L4D2 TPG Style? L4D2 TPG Style?
    #88

    Re: L4D2 TPG Style?

That's the great thing about this game. The devs created some solid, nicely balanced maps, and a few random hordes which spawn out of your pockets to slow you down. But the rest is Team "A", deciding when, where and how, to hit Team "One" rather than some canned, pre-calculated AI hit even the slowest of us can out think. That's where this game comes into its own. It's wonderfully complex, without being too complicated.

And its different every time. There are only a few hits that you KNOW are going to happen. The ramp up on Parrish. The smoke off the roller coaster on DC. And a few others. Beyond that, its nearly always different in some minuscule way because of the random permutations of SI, and SV player choice. That's a good game no matter how you slice it.

Damn I love this game and you guys make it fun. Thanks.
