Wisconsin plans to repeal Child Labor Laws
Article
Wisconsin plans to repeal the child labor laws in the state.
Here is the new law that will be passed:
-16 and 17 year olds will work unlimited hours per weeks.
-16 and 17 year olds will work unlimited hours per day (with the exception during school hours).
-16 and 17 year olds will now work 7 days a week. While 14 and 15 year olds will work until 9PM.
-Teens will still be banned from working during school hours.
Well, it's about time my state finally realized the stupidity with the original child labor laws. Having to work only 32 hours will not cover the number of bills you get.
With this new law, teens will be able to get enough money for food and enjoyables throughout their life as a teenager.
Also, before you start even thinking about saying 'but the minor won't have the time to do his homework and go to sleep', the teen can also do the homework BEFORE he go to work and be home BEFORE 11:00PM.
Thanks to the old child labor laws, stores are not able to hire anyone under 18. Wisconsin wants teens to be able to work extra hours and get paid below the minimum wage during the first 6 months of employment.
Hopefully, this will improve the economy and high school students can get jobs.

I... What? You cant be serious.
You really dont think the coprorations will take advantage of this? High School Students for the most part dont need to get jobs. Unless they move out on their own or get kicked out. This just leaves the doors open for kids to be as overworked as adults, with the added pressure of school work. And which will they leave first? A paying job or a free education?

Lol that title of your thread gave me the wrong impression...
I immediately thought...so..let's put those 12 kids back into those factories! Industrial revolutionary style
I always bypassed NY child labor laws by working in off the book delis.
Edit: I somewhat agree with teen, you don't need a teenager working 40+ hours. School work should be the priority, but I understand it from the perspective if no one is hiring teenagers at all because theycant work overtime. sometimes a worker needs to work up to ten hours. Jobs are unpredictable like that. They should have just kept the law and added a provision exempting overtime, with a limit obviously.

Yes, they do need to get jobs, especially if their family don't get enough money for food and bills.
Also, if you have read the post, students can do their homework BEFORE they go to work.
High school students can get jobs if they want because they are at an age where they should be able to buy their own things with their own money instead of their parents being their butlers.

What makes school work so important? School work can be done before they go to work.
Also, teenagers need to get jobs because they need money to buy their own stuff, food for the family, bills. The thing you guys should be happy about is that they won't work during school hours and they will be paid under the minimum wage.
Here is some questions you need to answer for yourself:
1. How are teenagers going to pay fines they are getting? What if the parents is refusing to lend them money?
2. How are teenagers going to help pay bills? Parents aren't getting enough money for themselves. I'm not saying that teenagers get bills, I'm talking about teenagers should be helping pay bills.
3. Don't you realize that schools are helping teenagers get jobs? My school even have a transition coordinator that puts students in jobs.
4. Don't you realize that there is some high school students who work 50 hours a week and STILL get good grades? I understand that we need to do our schoolwork but just because school is mandatory doesn't make it a beautiful butterfly we have to hold hands with.
There are the questions you guys need to ask yourself.
