Also, a general, why should I get this game over X game? What does it have that X does not? What makes it special? Fun? Those are some of the things I look for when looking at a new game.

    My rig
    Manufacturer:
    Gateway
    Processor:
    Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz (2 CPUs)
    Memory:
    1534MB RAM
    Hard Drive:
    250 GB
    Video Card:
    ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series
    Monitor:
    Plug and Play Monitor
    Sound Card:
    Realtek HD Audio rear output
    Speakers/Headphones:
    Keyboard:
    USB Root Hub
    Mouse:
    USB Root Hub
    Mouse Surface:
    Operating System:
Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254)

And I play it just fine with decent enough graphics and I've not seen many bugs. COD4 compared to 2142=completely different. COD4 is so much faster with accurate hit boxes and very realistic game play (except for the fact that you can kill someone by hitting them in the head with a flash bang WHAT THE CRAP!?) Also in HC you die in about one shot meaning you have almost no chance to save yourself if the enemy gets the jump on you unless he can't aim correctly. It's a game mostly based on how fast you can react and how fast you can aim and shoot properly. Very closed in you'll find yourself in a lot of places where you can feel the enemy breathing in your face. Also no vehicles

You'll never find a game as fast paced and hectic. Nades everywhere with ominous footsteps that your not are friendly or not moving around and trying to figure out where they're coming. A nade button instead of switching to them lol not new but not in most games. Modernized so you can feel like you know what toys your playing with which really isn't that special I guess. Guns are very accurate (in terms of being realistically accurate to the attributes of the real deals). Also the knife is keyed to a button so you don't have to switch to it, no dog tags though which ever since 2142 I think every game with a knife should have

    Re: Go on...convince me

Well i'll grant that the story was certainly fun to play through (and as an aliens fan, i enjoyed the references in the first mission immensely.)

My online experience is somewhat limited. One of my first games was an HQ Lot game...which degenerated into a massive 'nade storm punctuated by helicopters and chained airstrikes.

As for how it compares to 2142... Smaller scale, much faster paced, objectives are structured more similarly to TF2, visually stunning (and demanding), entirely infantry based.

And now, it may have been because i didn't get a chance to play CoD4 online on the TTP server, but i'd say that as far as team cohesion goes... Well there aren't squads or CO's to direct everyone so perhaps its a much more..democratic process (potentially, all the servers i'd played on had fallen into anarchy)? I suppose that its more similar to TF2 in terms of teamwork than 2142. But then coordination of the multi-kill assets is very important for a team (multiple UAVs at once... ) And then also, the fact that if the enemy is close enough they can hear your VoIP requires a different kind of coordination than either the two games.

Your health recovers over time in this game. So if you run into someone make sure you kill them, or hound them till they're dead.

I too was thinking of picking this up again.

*shrug* Its certainly different than the other two games.

Really, i'd just suggest picking up PR if you were looking for some really instense, time consuming, and demanding games. :9

No vehicles doesn't bother me because I don't really like them and you don't get them in CS, DoD, or TF2 and I really enjoy those games. As long as the maps aren't insanely large like BF2 or 2142 where walking on foot on such a huge map is a pain in the ass.

Still not sure I'd like the HC mode though with no HUD or anything.

sounds interesting...I just haven't heard enough good stuff about it to get me going...

And sorry Frag, but right now anything is better than FFOW...sure, it has potential, but right now it was a wast of money...something I do not have a lot of at the moment.

I like vehicles, so that makes me sad...but I can get over that. I like CP, but I like CTF a lot more...up until 2142, I was much more into CTF than anything else.

I can get over the no squads since you can still all talk to each other.

Really, up until now, the only good stuff I heard was about the graphics...and let's face it, graphics only take it so far. Otherwise I would still be playing the Mist/Ryven stuff...

You'll get used to it. The only useful thing on the HUD would have been the minimap, and the total ammo counter. But if you live long enough to run out of ammo, you're doing something wrong .

DUH. Everyone knows that it is a complete failure and I hate it... The comment I made was because it was pointless and unneeded and sounded more like and attack directed to me and less like an opinion... Never once did I say it was good...

    Angell,

You gave the beat reason to buy the game in your original post:

We really are the best reason to be here. But the game is also a lot of fun. The single player is quite good (but really very short). The different multiplayer game types make you adapt your gameplay to fit the map and game style (I frequently go from scoring near the top on one map to the very bottom on the next). The ability to adjust kits between and during games keeps things interesting, as well. The absence of vehicles is not a big deal (I liked the vehicles in BF 2142, but I haven't really missed them). Maybe because I got stuck sitting and defending Titans so much in BF 2142, I haven't particularly missed that game since transitioning to COD 4 (I do miss some of of the 2142 regulars, though). There's not a lot of sitting around on COD 4!

If you decide not to buy the game now, keep it in mind once the discounts start hitting. We'd love to have another good teamplayer on board!
