To be honest, 2142 is still where my heart is. I like COD4 b/c it is very fast paced. Once you start getting a few perks, the difficulty level drops, and the weapons you have from the start and first few levels are some of the best. Suppressive fire is important in this game (with team approval of course). In 2142, you can run between the crates, over the walls, etc. under heavy fire and unless say Pasha is shooting, you'll survive. In COD4, fat chance, all weapons are deadly in any hands and bullets go through walls to varying degrees. You need accuracy in this game especially since you can't armor things too.
I also love the sniper rifles and shotguns, the shotguns are very useful in the right hands and feel better than the 2142 ones (if you include the herzog). With sniper rifles, you have the choice between the fast firing but less accurate semi-autos and the slow firing but accurate bolt actions. Also, if you shoot someone in the chest with a sniper rifle, they will die.
Walls offer no or little protection, and in fact I LOVE sniping people through walls. They think they're safe and then BAM.
Claymores aren't as small as in 2142 and can't be picked back up, so you have to be careful with them. They are one of the best tools out there (just ask Biscuit). Biscuit even made a video guide for them.
C4 is so useful for holding control points especially if you get creative. I love shooting out the window of a car, throwing some C4 into one of the seats, going to guard somewhere else, and then just double tapping "f" to detonate the C4 to catch the enemy offguard and watch multiple sites at once. I'm working on a guide for that slowly but surely.
YOU GET TO USE A GHILLY SUIT! With the grassy and bushy terrains out there, it actually works. You will freak out people, come out of nowhere and scare the living daylights out of them, etc.
You can cook grenades. There are also EFFECTIVE smoke grenades that allow you to actually move from point to point unlike the 2142 ones that barely offer any cover. The other specialty grenades are flash and stun grenades, which are very useful as well.
Dying doesn't matter, capturing the objectives and holding them does. In 2142, a good team can fall back to a single point and simply slaughter the enemy to win on Conquest. In COD4, one team can slaughter the other and have scores all nearly double the highest on the other team and still lose since they didn't get on the objective quick enough.
Another fun thing is weapon variety; there are just so many weapons to use that you can make a kit suited to your exact play style instead having to go with a generic type kit. Even if I use my top secret kit in 2142 for mayhem. Plenty of other people outside of VTRX use it (just not as well or to its full potential). You can also customize your weapons based upon how well you've done with them from holographic red dot sights to scopes to camo patterns to grenade launchers.
It's different from 2142 that's for sure, and that's really why I play it. If I don't have time for a full round of 2142 (unless it's Berlin, and there's a good EU APC squad), I can play multiple COD4 rounds and have some quick, fast paced, hectic fun.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

I guess a question I'd have to ask then is how does it compare to the pace and style of CS? DoD? TF2? I mean there is something I like about each game that I play here on TTP, so I'm curious to how it compares. It sounds like a good game though that I might have to pick up.
There is some good info here for sure, thanks everyone, especially DJ for the lengthy description as it was very informative.

I've only played TF2 (at least on TTP that is). It's generally faster paced than TF2. I would say TF2 can take more team work in the case where the enemy team has a good engy who knows how to place a turret. You know, where even an Uber heavy or demo isn't enough. Other than that, I'd say COD4 is on par with the team work element if not more. With no minimap and with character skins that blend in to the environment, pointing out enemies and especially snipers is important. In TF2, I generally hear, "There's a sniper near where we're pushing." That's always good enough for the snipers on your team. In COD4, you hear, "There's a sniper in the second story of the building behind B flag, using a Baretti from the sound of it. He's watching the main road up from C pretty well."
TF2 is also more light hearted and comical, it's a good comic relief (especially that message when you fall to your death; I love it). In COD4, it's more serious with more "Oh Damn what a shot moments," or my favorite from when I used the MP44 when nobody else thought much of it, "Damn White."
You watch your ammo a lot more too.
I'm also going to go ahead and say that the single player game was pretty good. As for a review, http://www.escapistmagazine.com/arti...Call-of-Duty-4enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

I should also mention that now is a very good time to come into COD4 since FF on seems the way the server will go based upon the recent poll. That means: by by nade/RPG/LMG/nade launcher spam.

I've got a few more weeks left until I'm done with the semester and it'll be some hellish weeks I bet...so I might have to pick this up then try relax after finals and all the final projects are turned in.
That's what I'm hoping for right now at least. We'll see how things go though... :1
