Re: Left 4 Dead news/update
Reminds me a lot of the first AvP bug hunts. Most of the levels were very dark and as a marine you would be surrounded all the time by things jumping at you and crawling down the walls. That used to be played off of mplayer were players would create a chat type room to which others would join and when they had enough they would launch the game. Hopefully they can figure something out to allow enough people to play since it does look like its limited to 8.

Re: Left 4 Dead news/update
Some things I want to see after they get around to adding new goodies (six months or more after release?):
Flamethrowers. Better yet, flamethrowers that can set almost anything on fire - doors, cabinets, desks, anything normally flammable in real life - and things that, once set aflame, will set other things on fire. Imagine laying waste to an entire zombie horde with a flamethrower. Probably put only one of these in an entire campaign and with very little or no extra ammunition for it. Make it take up the primary weapon slot, so you carry it around and use only pistols to save it for a big time or use it up all at once. Would have to be careful using it in a confined space, or else risk setting your team on fire too.
Rocket launchers. Same concept as the flamethrowers. Single-shot, takes up your primary weapon slot. Kills all the boss zombies except the Tank in one shot (including the Witch?), obviously kills normal zombies in one shot. Have to "deploy" to fire (think Rocket in DoD.)
Remote/proximity mines. Instead of toss-and-forget grenades or molotovs, how about mines we can use to set up traps? Maybe have some timer-detonated C4 attached to a door, wall, or car, and then you could have a Tank take said door/wall/car and throw it back at the players? Probably want to allow boss zombies to see planted explosives (maybe visible from just outside of detonation range?) or else they'd get really old, really fast.
Emplaced heavy guns. Automatic grenade launchers, high-caliber miniguns (let's get us a .50!) Limited field of fire (think deployed MG in DoD), which leaves your back and sides (figure about a 90-degree field of fire, leaving you vulnerable at the other 270 degrees) vulnerable, requiring teammates (teamwork!) to cover your flanks while you lay waste to anything in your field of fire. Could allow Boomers to blast people out of it, Smokers to hook people out with their tongue, Hunters could knock people out with lunge or pounce moves, and Tanks could just toss a car at it, destroying it completely.
Resident Evil-style zombies. Yeah, they're living humans infected with a virus, but I call them zombies anyway. How about some slower, tougher, stronger zombies mixed in with the weak, fast ones? Like classic zombies - they're tough to kill and move slow, but the whole point is to box you in until you can't escape. Could even add a little plot thingie about how the virus has begun to mutate more, causing some of the existing infected to lose agility in favor of raw power. Personally, I feel a slow, inexorable tide of nearly impervious zombies is more scary than a pack of speedy weaklings.
Non-American maps. How about duking it out through London or Berlin, or trying to escape zombies in an African savannah? Hell, how about we end up in a pyramid somehow? Maybe we find ourselves in a secret research compound inside an Amazonian rain forest, Rainbow Six-style? How about a fight through Paris to reach an escape helicopter hovering at the top of the Eiffel Tower?
Game/movie-themed maps. You know we're gonna have to find ourselves fighting through Raccoon City and/or the Resident Evil mansion(s) (there's two, one from the original and another from Resident Evil 0), and probably Silent Hill, too. But why stop there? Personally, I'd love to be running from zombie hordes and watching my teammates get torn limb from limb by intelligently played zombies amid cartoony surroundings like a Super Mario World map or something torn from The Wind Waker.

Re: Left 4 Dead news/update
A single-shot rocket launcher that you have to more or less stand still to shoot that takes up the slot you'd normally carry your shotgun/SMG/rifle in is overkill? It's a tradeoff. It's more or less a way to make an escape route if you find yourselves boxed in, but after you've fired it, you're left with just your pistols until you can find a new gun. Maybe it'd be overpowered if guns are everywhere, but I'd imagine you'd only find them at checkpoints and instead just find some ammo between checkpoints.
The flamethrower... meh. I just like torching stuff. I do like the idea of mines, though

Re: Left 4 Dead news/update
The weapons are based around things you would find in a normal town or city Thats means weapons that are going to be of abbundance in guns stores and Bass pro shop, not stuff you'd find in a military bunker that happens to be lying there on the couch in your safe house :P
