How to force update Call of Duty W@W on Steam

Hey guys. I stumbled across this last night while browsing the steam forums.

I would give warning though, you can not play single player as the retail version of the game requires a CD to load. I also had frequent crashes on one of the new maps, though I'm not certain that is due to this process or not.

This works so you dont have to wait a few days to patch to release on steam. When it does, you simply reverse the changes and use the steam patch. However try this at your own risk

Click on Start > Run
type in regedit
press ok

click on edit
find
type in call of duty WAW

alternatively follow this route
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Activision\Call of Duty World at War

If you have a 64-bit operating system this is located in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Activision \Call of Duty World at War.

Right Click Digital Distribution
rename to Not Digital Distribution

Thats it, now you can install the 1.4 patch.
When steam releases the patch you simply rename this back to Digital Distribution.

This works for me and I still have my multiplayer profile.

[update] You cannot play solo/coop after doing this! error message says Insert DVD, so you must wait for steam patch to play solo/coop

WaW has been turned off till steam releases the patch. Not fair for the steam vs non steamers.....so....we have to shut it down.

Yeah, I would really not recommend this. It might work, but you never know what might happen.

Actually the Mime avatar was kinda cool, if not a little random. But yea the sig never made sense to me either.

Spider Jerusalem, I think. Comic book character. Interesting guy. I actually like the sig, it attracts attention to what he has to say and it looks nice.
