Video card issue w/ L4D

Any of you computer genius's out there happen to know about Nvidia (NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX ) having some very big problems with L4D? I am having reoccurring problems with lock ups- They started after the update before last in L4D but have been ESPECIALLY awful since the last update. I have tried updating the drivers, re-seating the card, extra fans to keep everything nice and cool... I give up

. I am 'bout to chunk it out the window and get something else. What'a yah think? I have had BSOD twice now and the error message upon restart telling me some crap about NVIDIA being a hunk of junk with no current fixes

To make things ever stranger I can play L4D vs or my other games (TF2, COD5) and have never had a lock up but if I try L4D camps or survival it is awful. WTH?

try going to your video options and turn off multicore rendering and see how that works out

Aye multi core rendering makes L4D play the hurky jerky for me, every couple of minutes I get ~10 - 30 second pauses and the game plows 100% of my CPU into the dirt.
Unchecking use multi core and it all runs perfectly fine.

I can play (usually) two full games and the guarantee myself that it will crash on the next one. I have two 8800GTX's but I don't think it's the cards. I think it's just the buggy arsed L4D code.

Ok, I did and it did make it through a camp tonight. I will keep yah posted after a day or two we will know for sure!

I either CTD or BSOD at least once.. though lately its the BSOD with L4D.. 2142 does more of the CTD crap.

Its the mutlicore rendering fo sho! I remember having issues with this as some others did and this help completely.

Guys, tonight I had NO PROBLEMS with any notching or lock ups while playing L4D (granted I was in vs which usually plays fine) but as I was leaving L4D- had just hit quit... BSOD.

Got anything else up your sleeves?

Are you running evga precision tuning or xfire or some other program that hooks into the video card driver settings? Maybe Riva Tuner or something that controls the video card fans or drivers?

I was having BSOD with evga precision tuning when I ran it with steam. I would hit quit in the L4D menu and it would sometimes lock up or even bsod.

I have the 8800GT and have no issues with L4D whatsoever. Though I think we all (at least those of us who play) have random issues with 2142.

I'd be curious to know what issues Tenrou is suffering from. He seems to crash fairly often and requires a reboot to get his sound back. Strange.
