What you need to do is come up with a series of aspects about the game, then rate each person in each category, 1 -10. Even though it's still trite and absurd, at least it'll give you a more quantifiable number than simply saying, "he's the best because _________".

For example... I'm rating

Bigdog

Vision: 9 (The ability to "see" the battle unfold and react to the changes in it before they kill the squad)

Survivability: 7 (How hard it is to "cut off the head of the snake", so to speak. This means finding the SL, killing him and forcing the squad to regroup at another flag.)

Reflexes: 9 (When you come face to face with the SL in a frantic discharge of weapons, how often do you walk away?)

Intangibles: 10 (The element that makes this person somehow always come out on top)

Leadership: 9 (The ability to get the squad to operate as a finely tuned machine [Normally, Big doesn't have to worry about this because no one dares ignore an order])

Mentor: 6 (The ability to take newer players and teach them how to experience the game at an operational tempo which far exceeds that of other servers)

First In: 10 (This is the squad YOU as the commander would look to first to do the most difficult, suicidal, highest rate of failure task on the battlefield. This category does not concern itself with how successful they were, just that YOU would choose them first.)

TOTAL: 60


Ranger Ratings:

1 - Abysmal, put your CD away and go play Braid
2 - Needs Improvement
3 - Average on another server
4 - Noob on TTP
5 - Average on TTP
6 - Branded a "hacker" on another server
7 - Veteran on TTP
8 - Elite
9 - Master
10 - Demi-god

FYI - Tens should hardly EVER be given out. Tens are resevered for the person you would arguably be the BEST TTP has at that position. If you think someone is deserving of a ten, think to yourself, "Is there anyone on the server I'd rate higher?" If the answer is yes, then give that person the ten, and NO ONE ELSE.

The fact that Big got two tens is honestly ridiculous, but I can't think of anyone on TTP (or that I know for that matter) who I would pick first in the categories above. People who get tens DEFINE the standard, everyone else is a copy of a copy.

So now, once you rate every person, the total cumulative score should tell you who is the best. That should definately be your first choice.

I would say I have thorough support of Dex in the battlefield here. That guy always seem to have a cool head and is focused on the objective without getting too discouraged.

A great partner all around. I'll look into rating the sub categories later... No time to focus on this right now.

Vision: 8 (Summon is a creature of habit, plain and simple)
Survivability: 8 (He's a tough fucker to take out!)
Reflexes: 10
Intangibles: 10 (Lucky too!)
Leadership: 8 (He can chew you out)
Mentor: 8 (He's always willing to help)
First In (I'll assume this means always the call maker): 10. Summon is not afraid to go for that bomb.

Summon is all around a great call maker.

Hmm, I would if I could see a point to doing so.

I mean I kind of get what Ranger is saying there...but still seems like more epeen stroking and all.

The only thing that might make it worthy is if new people see this and can see who they think they should follow or try to get tips from.

Plus I'm bad a rating people and things in general.

Getting feedback is pretty much the entire purpose of this exercise.

Self improvement then? Or general feedback to better everyone? I can't say I can see it being too helpful to others is all. Perhaps I am just not seeing it right at the moment.
