until you take a shot, then they open up on your position.
Also once they have acquired you, they will continue to track and fire at you if you manage to find cover close by (at least my experience with firing AT weapons - one time I shot an M136 at a BMP, then ducked behind a different set of trees a few feet away, and I got shot by some infantry that managed to jump out...)
But in general, the AI opfor is generally better at not having xray vision as compared to arma1

I remember on ArmA1, I spent a few hours climbing to the top of a mountain. It had an awesome view of an enemy base a hell of a long way away. I took one shot, killed an officer...and then promptly came under fire. I was like WTF? I had taken a round-about route and was concealed under cover, laying down, in the middle of the night, with a suppressed rifle, and they instantly knew where I was at. AI in ArmA 1 hacked.

yes, in ArmA 2, you can take at least 2 shots before the AI all know where you are.
That is if they don't spawn in right behind you. Or into the ZU-23 AA gun behind you. Or into a technical with a 14.5mm HMG on the back.
Or they hit you through a building. Or a hill. Or through thick, concealing grass.

Re: Snipers in Arma 2
I hate to say it but ARMA II AI does not have xray vision. I have been able to sneak up on tanks and other armored vehicles and plant satchel charges to kill them. Also when using a ghillie suit the AI does take longer to find and then kill you.
I
Do some testing guys, I have. Stand out in a field and shot one AI, watch the guy you shoot aim first and then the rest turn and then fire at you. What happen? The guy who got shot told everyone where the hell you where.
Then same test same spot only prone, shoot one guy. If he was not facing you and observed the flash he will look around, his buddies will be looking too. If you do not move an inch they MAY not see you. When I say do not move an inch I mean hands off the controls.
Try it out you will be surprised. The AI is good at finding and killing because it knows how to lead fire, will use suppressing fire on a position and will tell everyone in the area what direction you are at.
Another good test is if you are on a ridge to fire on the AI, then run like hell over the hill. The AI will keep fire going on your last position and then if you walk left or right with out being seen you can pop out somewhere else and get some more kill. Well that is if they do not send guys up to kill you.

I think that is the fun and frustrating part about Arma 2, that the AI are not idiots.

Re: Snipers in Arma 2
it's true. when you see a patrol of guys moving along, focus your shot at the chain of command. The guy wearing the special hat. Shoot him, and the soldiers don't know what to do, where to look, where to run, to duck....they just scatter and react like you'd expect them to when their leader has been shot. then....they will restablish who's the new leader, and that leader will start giving orders abotu returning fire, changing their stance to find cover or stay down, and calling out target positions.
The AI is stupid smart. Superior to any game you've ever played. You can hide in that bush...and you might lose them. But that's only until they call in that BMP or tank to come over and start knocking over all the bushes. And they WILL call it in.
