    What is it????

What is it about this game that makes it so intense?

There have almost been friendships lost over this silly game because we get so worked up playing it.

No other game I have ever played gets such good players to rage so often...

Beware those who are new to the game, VS is intense, there will probably be some yelling and hollering and cussing.

Better be prepared and know the game before you jump in, this is not a game that is kind to fresh meat.

I don't know what it is about L4D that makes it so massively competitive. But I'd like to find out, so I can punch it in the balls. Then I could reclaim what is a very fun game that, for me anyway, is ruined by all the e-peen waving.

I think its the suspense of the game itself (kind of a 'whats around the corner' feeling you get) along with the suspense of the scoring. Even if you roll the other team two rounds, they can still come back to win it. I also think as an Infected, you usually have a small window of opportunity to create havoc and it angers some (including me) when that window is smashed by a player with his head on a swivel that instantly takes you down.

It's competitive alright. No teamwork=epic fail. People rage so much because not a lot of people can play the game well and they are expecting an all star team. But in reality the one side that are all friends will most likely pub stomp the other team, being that they are usually just random people. I think most of us know how frustrating it is to play with people that don't know what the hell they are doing. I've lost count of the number of people that have told me that they are pros, and in the end they don't live up to their word. I ask them what exactly are they good at and they reply that they tear it up in campaign...

I think your first mistake is taking a random person's word on the internet.

Well they probably do, but VS. is NOT campaign. You actually get raped by the special infected, not the other way around.

    Re: What is it????

Playing as hunter is monstrously frustrating. You don't have the HP to take the hits, and yet you don't have the range of the smoker or the fire-and-forget style of the boomer. Ninja swipes can be nice if you can get several in before they stop you (at 6 dmg apiece, they add up fast), but pouncing not only makes your presence and location painfully obvious, but the pounce detection itself seems to be victimized by Source's issues with sometimes-wonky hit registration and hitbox lag. There have been times where I literally pounced into someone and slid off their player model without knocking them down, and there have been times where I pounced ten feet over someone else and still landed on them instead of my actual target. Couple this with the fact that the damned director or system doesn't let you trade spawns with your teammates (for example, I feel I'm fairly decent at boomer and okay at smoker, but suck at hunter; if I get a hunter spawn, why can't I trade it to a teammate for his boomer/smoker spawn?) and the frustration builds very quickly. If you're also getting rolled, it's enough to push someone over the top and cause a ragequit. Games are supposed to be fun, not infuriating.

As to the e-peen stuff... shit, I'm used to that. I played WoW for four years. I just accept e-peen stroking as a hazard of competitive games.

Regardless, it's really irritating to have someone invite you to a game of L4D while you're in the middle of something and then not save you a spot when you specifically told them you'd be there in a couple minutes. It's happened several times to me in the past few days, which has lead to me cleaning out my Steam friends list.

They always say try to land in front of your target. Thats just how that lag compensation works I guess...

Thats whats fun about the game. Bettering yourself in all aspects of Special Infected, including Tank...

I would think proper etiquette would dictate that if you confirmed your invitation to join the game, the invitor would save a place for you ultimately. Or if the game is filling up, they would notify you. It sounds more like people whoring out their friends list to find a player (nothing wrong with that...) and just going with first come first server even if you said you were exiting your current game and joining this instant...

**Sorry to pick apart your post 'Pizaz'...
