The L4D1 server files were released early last year too.

It's cutting into prime time for those hippies on the west coast, but everywhere else ain't so bad. On a weeknight (and a Monday night, no less) most people are crashing before midnight. Releasing it in the morning wouldn't be a problem, either, but I'm assuming the people working at Valve would like to end the day with the release, have their night shift (I'm sure they have one) folks do the cork-popping, and then the regulars can handle all the massive fail happening in the morning when they get in.

Or something like that. I'm pretty well used to game developers being a little out of touch with the real world by this point.
