    Replay value just got turned on it's head...

    News on the oft delayed L4D2 SDK

    Custom models are now supported and very much a reality now! And that includes survivors, special infected, common infected and weapons. Not only that, it seems the weapon functionality can also be edited. So what does this all mean? Well it means mappers can have custom survivors, special/common infected and entirely new weapons unique to just their campaigns (i.e map side modifications, NOT server side)! The L4D modding scene just got a little more interesting boys and girls.
    That's going to change EVERYTHING. It's not just going to be maps now. When modders can put in whole new models and design their own special infected L4D3 comes to the hands of the modders.

    I think this is a great idea. It means that modders can put in specific weapons for levels that are thematically appropriate. Even just having melee weapons that are specific to the maps would be a damn cool idea.

    Sure there will be a lot of shitty maps, but there will also be some amazing ones.

    So? There's actually 3 "amazing" maps so far. And I don't think we really "waded" through anything. Death Aboard, Coal'd Blood, and Suicide Blitz after testing of version 2.

    I'd much rather have a number of people making new content that we have to "wade" through to find good content than have to wait a year for one mediocre map from valve.

    This version of the SDK will allow for an ENTIRE new game if someone goes the extra mile to make new survivors, weapons and special infected. And that can't be a bad thing.

    Actually... a full campaign where you play 4 soldiers attempting to get out of a city sounds awesome... You move from one military position to another... AR15's and M203's only... hrmmmmmmm

    Ah, I was thinking 2142 soldiers. Start with pistols and Engineer SMGs, move up to the combat shotgun, assault rifles, sniper rfiles. Melee weapons of all kinds, from an empty gun used as a club to the combat knife. LMGs, the Ganz HMG, Engineer anti-tank weapons...

    And we can make new infected too. PAC/EU zombie soldiers running at you in full body armor, tanks with their flesh melded around armor plates? An even more mutated smoker that can crawl on walls, a hunter that can drag survivors a short way... All kinds of shit we can do. Definatly got myself a pet project over the coming year.
