Re: Ladder rankings
This is why you always need to be ready for antyhing at any time. And this is the main problem I see with any competative league shit anywhere. Comp players forget the ability to adapt and instead demand things be cookie-cutter so that the best at manipulating the cookie sheets win.
No. No. And no.
Not to slander you, Pizza, but if you couldn't beat a noob because he zerg rushed you, you deserved every loss you recieved in this manner. "Over-specialize and you breed in weakness. It's slow death." (Yes, I'm quoting anime, shut up). And to blame it on the game, or the "noob", is pointing the finger in the wrong place. If you're truly good, you will be able to compensate for everything and adjust your tactics accordingly. When you discover you face a "button masher", button mash. When you face a specialist, specialize (or button mash because he won't be able to compensate either). When facing a tower rush, block choke points and kill the probes before they build the tower.
this has ever been my problem with confogle in l4d2. It breeds weakness and stagnation. Instead of being able to adapt to the situation, they cry for a mod/designer to compensate for them to make it more "balanced" and "even" instead of adapting and overcomming. being faster, better-aimed or whavever to a cookie-cutter environment doesn't make you better.. adapting to oddds that aren;t in your facor, and winning in spite of it, does.

Re: Ladder rankings
Wow... I hate SC multi because of rushes... and even *I* gotta laugh at Pizza here. He's "too good" for those he's playing... yet those he's playing are spanking him. I can think of only one thing...
Vizzini: "INCONCEIVABLE!!!"
Inigo: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means..."

Re: Ladder rankings
Except it happens very rarely, and the only time it does happen is when some punk that got lucky with his placement matches gets into one of my games and fucks up the metagame because they have no fucking clue what they're doing. You check their profile and sure enough, they're something like a 3-14 gold league player, which means they're headed straight for silver or even bronze when the system finally decides to demote them.
Tell me, how do you scout an even halfway competent zerg player with a probe? A small pack of zerglings at the ramp prevents the probe from getting close enough to gather useful scouting information, your initial scout won't tell you they're going to sit there and mass lings, and you have no other means of scouting until you can get an Observer out. The straight answer is you don't get good scouting until you get that initial Observer out, or they're dumb and don't block their ramp with some units. You have to assume what your opponent is doing and play accordingly, and try to reinforce it with constant scouting.
I don't expect any of you to be able to understand. It's no different from the whole confogl thing, where a massive balance issue is present and everyone prefers the vanilla settings because they don't like having to work for their wins as survivors.

Re: Ladder rankings
The thing is basic good play will stop a ling all-in as protoss. Just block your ramp with buildings and 1-2 zealots with some more behind them. There are reasons why this sort of building placement is standard. If you can't even do that then you deserve to lose. And even players that are "worthy" to play you will pull things like this from time to time to make sure their opponent is paying attention.

Re: Ladder rankings
Also worst case you can also turn around and attack with your probes(till your lot comes out). While it will hurt you the zerg hurt himself a lot more by doing a 6 or 7 pool. As for scouting a 6-7 pool even as zerg the only reliable way to scout it is to take your first drone/probe/scv and run them to their base and look for the pool. There really is only 1 of 2 places it will be. Blocking part of the mineral line (which I usually do) or behind the mineral line. If you see nothing there then you don't have to worry about 6-8 pools. myself i tend not to 6-7 pool anymore due to how easy it is to hold off and how much it kicks you in the nuts after if you didn't do good econ damage (ie killing at least 6 probes). Usually I just scout and see what your upto. 2 gates no gas odds are your going to lot push me(roaches and speedlings to counter). 2 quick gas with a fairly tight choke pretty good hint your going VR's ( my OL will pop in to take a look usually FE and get lair ASAP). 1 gas 1 gate 1 Ccore good chance at 4 gate or 3 gate ( OL will take a peek in. Either way FE and go lair for hydras and start teching to ultras incase of mass stalker colo which seems to be popular these days but if you can get the ultras out it pretty much melts to Ultra hydra).
TLDR 6-8 pool is a gambit that only works on those who don't know how to deal with it. If it doesn't work you pretty much have won the game.

That's right. Your massive brain is far beyond our microbial intelligences. You are the best gamer ever and your constant rants about every... fucking... game... EVER... is merely your immense IQ raging against the idiots that don't know how to write or balance a game for truly intelligent beings of your caliber. Got it. You've officially taken the Fuckin Whiner Award to a new level.

Re: Ladder rankings
Right back atcha, Kanati. You're the exact opposite - the game is perfect, the system is perfect, it could never be wrong (EVER), so it's clearly the player. The mere concept of a game that isn't flawless, perfect, and immaculate out of the box is so heretical that it causes your eyes to melt and your brain to wilt.
