I'm so awesome that I regularly hold conversations with myself, usually on the subject of how amazing I am and how sad it must be to not be me. As such, I'm very much aware of when I'm talking to myself, and that wasn't.

    Re: Ladder rankings

I'm really enjoying being in Diamond, because most of the players we fight are Diamond and generally know what they're doing. The problem, though, is that playing these players make it more obvious than ever how many shortcomings Zerg often has, and how overtuned so much of Terran is. I'm really starting to see why so many people pick Terran - it's just so much easier to get anything done because you have so many options and even an aggressive opener has few safety risks because of the wall.

We had a double (picked) Terran team play Medivac games with us on a large map. They both had two armies comprised of marines, a handful of marauders, and a couple of tanks each. My Terran partner couldn't keep up with it all (though they mostly left him alone), and my Zerg units simply couldn't keep up. Speedlings are fast, but they have to go the long way around - all a Medivac cloud has to do is fake a landing at an expansion (which could easily be turned into a REAL landing), wait for the lings to run down the ramp to get over there, and then cruise back over and land.

I also had a large pack of Mutalisks running around, but they can't be in two places at once, and splitting them to chase each army would be ineffective - they wouldn't be able to destroy the Medivacs before they can drop the Marines, and stimmed Marines (especially with Medivacs healing them) eat Mutalisks for breakfast, even though my Mutas were 3/2 and his Marines were only 1/1. The usual answer to bioblobs would be Infestors and Banelings (Fungal Growth followed by a zergling/baneling rush), but Infestors and Banelings are subject to the same limitations the zerglings are - namely, they have to go around the long way, giving the Terran plenty of time to go somewhere else.

I tried sending packs of lings at their bases, but a couple of token siege tanks on the high ground completely neutralized that idea, and anything more than those lings would result in a base trade, and base trading with a Terran is never a smart idea. My partner couldn't offer a great deal of help because he had to keep them away from his expos and base as well.

It really does irritate me. Supposedly Zerg is the most mobile race and Terran the least mobile, and yet a couple of intelligent Terran players completely outmaneuvered me all game despite my making heavy use of the two fastest units in the Zerg arsenal. Because Terran armies are so much stronger than Zerg armies in a straight, even fight, I couldn't split my forces like he could, either. Hell, at one point I attacked one of his small armies with my entire cloud of Mutalisks (I had at least 24, probably 26) at 3/2 with a small pack of about 30 2/1 lings on the ground, and his Marines completely shredded it. I distinctly remember one point where a Marine getting healed by two separate Medivacs actually outhealed the damage from THREE Mutalisks, despite being only 1/1.

It's ridiculous. People keep pointing to Brood War, saying that there were few balance changes and most of it resulted from people learning new ways to play, but they're apparently assuming the Terran players are just going to sit on their hands and let the Zerg and Protoss players have all the time in the world to think - they aren't. Terran players are evolving as well, and quite possibly at a faster rate, simply because of how many options Terran have with a simple 1/1/1 build - hell, think of how many options a Terran player has with a Factory, Barracks, and one Tech Lab. This versatility is a huge reason of why the race is so incredibly powerful right now, and why I just think that there's no way Zerg and Protoss will be able to catch up without Terran getting nerfed or Protoss and Zerg receiving some huge buffs - and that would just destroy PvZ gameplay, which is already relatively balanced.

SC2 isn't balanced for 2v2. You're assuming it is, but it really isn't. I only play team games for fun now. I gave up them being a serious game about a week after release.

1v1 is much more balanced that most people give it credit for. A lot of it is groupthink raging and whining (I had my own small period of Terran rage, I admit). I agree with Day9 when he said that people gave up trying to innovate as Zerg. They fell into a rut and stuck with it (myself included ), and fell back on attributing everything wrong with their games on imbalance. After seeing the IEM tournament, I changed my mind and have a renewed resolve to stop blaming imbalance. The tournament showed that Terran isn't as OP as everyone said they were. Don't cry about imbalance, innovate!

No, I long ago stopped thinking 2v2 was balanced. Every race has shit they can pull there that's just flat-out overpowered in one situation or another, but Terran tends to have more of those than the other races. Quick mass Phoenixes completely shuts down Zerg if you get them out quickly enough, for example. You'd never, ever try that in 1v1, but it works strangely well in 2v2 if you can get them out quickly enough, and especially well if they weren't planning on Hydralisks.

I honestly just don't find 1v1 to be as fun as 2v2, though. It's just... boring.

An odd statement coming from a member of TeamPlayer Gaming
