You don't have to be first in your league to bump up. I got bumped up after winning a bunch but was still far from the top. When I got into diamond, I started in a new league so everyone had really low number of points and it just took a couple weeks to sort its self out. Now sitting at 5th with zerg.

Actually most of that stuff doesn't happen in diamond because most diamond players know how to deal with it. The only cheezy things you still see are the void ray rush which is easily stopped by 2 queens, the forward pylon zealot rush and the reaper rush.

cheese still happens in diamond, the difference is it's often executed at a much higher level, and the game isn't always over if it is fended off.
