What to and not to do on holds during game.
So here you are mid round, someone drops on your team. You have to stop for them to come back or find a replacement. You have 10 health left, your bleeding out. Do you heal up during the hold? Or do you hold and do nothing like the Special Infecteds are and hope the random zombies don't get you?
I ask this because I have played and seen mixed reviews, either way this goes is fine by me. I would like to see a single rule instead of different rules with different people. Vote it up and state your beliefs.Son calls Dad a fag.

I say go for it. We all shoot down CI behind the safety of the saferoom door before readying up and some even spawn in as SI and clear doors and railings before readyup (if its a long time when we're waiting for someone). If there was a way to truly pause the server so that CI hordes didnt spawn, then I would say everyone would have to freeze where they are and nobody could heal and whatnot, but the fact is the person is bleeding out, will eventually get to 1hp and one random hit from a director-initiated horde spawn could bring that person down (or even killed if hes black and white).

Re: What to and not to do on holds during game.
I voted no... but it's really case specific. If the entire team is bleeding out, then I'd say use it. I'm not a fan of holds in the first place. I've seen them abused before JUST to wipe out some temp health.
As for other things...
When a hold is called. STOP. Survivors AND SI. That means no spawning in and destroying doors. That's giving a tactical advantage to the SI and isn't kosher.
If you are survivors that means no creeping forward OR running backwards to grab something you saw in the room behind you. If people are moving around significantly I'll attack you. Especially if you are moving forward. Every step you take gives you points and those few points can be the difference in a close game (Had a come from behind victory last night where we won by 3 points in no mercy finale for instance).
If a tank spawns... Tough luck. Holds are out of the picture at that point (excepting where people are all in the safe room because tank frustration meter doesn't go down in that case). You can't hold during a tank excepting in that case. If a survivor drops, the tank either attacks or frustration rises until AI takes over. A bot will not honor a hold after all and will shoot the shit out of the tank.
The same goes for during an event. If the event is started... Tough luck. No holding during an event. Suck it up and deal with it.
If the SI call the hold and the survivors are in a REALLY BAD SPOT... like in the middle of the park where they can get attacked from multiple angles, it's the NICE thing to do to let them either fall back or move forward a bit to a reasonable spot to defend themselves.
Those are my particular rules I follow. These are all "gentlemen's rules" however... Nothing says we HAVE to ready up, or honor holds. It's just something that we (TPG) DO. You'll find it's pretty rare out in the wilds of the intertron to find other people doing it.

Heal away if bleed is happening, ESPECIALLY IF BW. Waste a health pack hell makes the Si's job easier. It's a game, I prefer to see SV get far. This is very timing specific. We can't enforce any rules like this, but as a gentlemanly rule I'd say ask the other team first or if in dire need heal. Allot of new players heal way too early anyways.

So the gentleman's rule is to allow healing when bleeding. Got ya.
Holds seem to mostly be a disadvantage to the sv. Last night's game was mega close. But I cant help thinking, if there weren't holds on your team twice Max, it could have made a difference for you guys.

Re: What to and not to do on holds during game.
It depends on the situation. Personally, I try to time my attacks with healings. So allow someone to heal during hold takes away from my chance to hit you. Cause had we not held, I could have stopped you with that one heal.
And since we're on the subject of gentlemen rules...I'm tired of having to wait for the SI to get particular infected. That's not why we R up. We R up just in case someone needs a quick bathroom break between rounds, or stuff like that. On the first map, fine, we have to wait till people get in and the steam login stuff anywys. And since we let one side do it, then the other gets to. But other than that, mid map, unless someone will be afk for a good amount of time, I'd prefer not to wait for that.

From my experience your allowed to heal up. It's curtsey for the SI not to spawn in and the humans just have to sit in a corner and shoot the respawning AI zombies. The time period between a hold is basically the same as the time period before the round starts. The humans are allowed to heal up, but the SI are allowed to have extra time to strategize how to kill them. This is more beneficial to the SI in my opinion.
The only time I would say that the humans can't heal up, is if it was a situation where all the humans were about to die and then all of a sudden one of the players left. The SI were obviously about to spawn in and kill the humans within the next minute, so if the humans were allowed to heal up, they would be getting points that they shouldn't be getting.
I guess it all depends on who you are playing with. I'd say if this ever happens just ask the other team. If they say go ahead, then nice, if they say no, then your shit out of luck and it's just a game anyways.Last edited by Mr_Blonde_OPS; 03-16-11 at 01:49 PM.

Re: What to and not to do on holds during game.
Healing is allowed at any time if hold is called by anyone. For SVs, their called hold probably would end up hurting them if they healed, since CI will probably swipe away a few HP per shot. SIs should almost never call a hold (despite it being more necessary to have that fourth), but I don't see a problem with the SVs doing anything they need to to avoid being swiped by CI. Even if that includes moving to the beginning of the event on the Parish, Map 2, but not starting said event if within a certain distance.

I do agree that SI shouldn't call hold as often... if you lose an SV player they just stop dead in their tracks while the player times out. SI can continue to attack without that fourth person. Not to mention that it's easy for SI to totally ruin the momentum of an SV team by calling hold just because the tide has turned against them and they want to "ice the quarterback" so to speak. NEVER been fond of an SI team calling hold in the middle of a map. But it can happen.
