Re: Even teams up during a match?
That's hilarious Walker.
As for evening up teams....having been on quite a few losing teams because of my own ineptitude, I admit it gets old after awhile lol. Still though, I think switching players is likely to bog the game down an ungodly amount, and possibly switch the dynamic the opposite way. When there are only 4 players per team changing one each can have a substantial impact on the game.
I think the problem can probably be avoided in lobby however. As has been suggested earlier, if you have two or more newer players, have them split up before the random. Captains are another option, but I've seen those devolve into cluster****s too often to call them a VIABLE option, especially when you run into people just picking based on who they're friends with, rather then who would make a better teammate. Of course, part of my disdain for choosing captains stems from being picked about as early as the fat kid at dodgeball lol. Usually the choice comes down to me, and someone who's been playing the game for only a few weeks....and they take WAY too long with that decision to help my ego

odd, most of the "veterans" used/are CSS players...
and the bigger question (not related to anything above), why does it seem all of a sudden L4D is having all these issues? The entire L4D time never saw as many "etiquette threads" (and there was plenty of new people then too), nor anyone bitching at new people etc. Even early in L4D2, don't remember seeing any of that happening. Now in the last month or two seem to be a shitload of both happening.
Also, to tie to the thread, when did the captain thing become the "must-do" thing? Can't remember once having a non-random game in L4D1, if you got your ass kicked you got your ass kicked. It sucked, but in the end it was just a fun, friendly game. Seems like the friendly is starting to go away...Last edited by Red_Lizard2; 04-18-11 at 12:57 AM.

Re: Even teams up during a match?
This is not even remotely true. Some play, or played CSS, but as many came from BF2, 2142, TF2, and other games. Some of those "non" CSS L4D vets now play CSS, but by no stretch are former/current CSS players a majority of the L4D/L4D2 vets (By "Vets" I'm not just talking "OG".. those of us that have had and played the game since day -1 of L4D... but even those that aren't that "og" in the game, like Thorsen, or Max, or others that are also "vets" of L4D2, but weren't here for the L4D1 days).
Actually, L4D and L4D2 was the one game that brought many who had otherwise never gamed together into the same place and forged new friendships. We from 2142 and BF2 got to play with guys and girls from TF2 and CSS, and PR, and COD4... people we'd only seen on the forums.

Personally never had a problem being picked last...no one should feel bad about being picked last either. Doesn't mean your necessarily bad.
Walker, that was a weird ass video lol.
so... being flashed... and unable to see... you are supposed to keep running blindly probably into a wall... or water buffalo... or pungee trap... or be banned?! Well that's just not right.

Re: Even teams up during a match?
It's still not the "must do" thing, but those same people that got trounced over and over, and then got L4D2 and got trounced over and over, tried to come up with a better way to make games more even matched and competitive. And the friendly is as here as it ever was, as well as the unfriendly. Nothing really has changed, but that we've become a bit more vocal in trying to make it better.
And frankly, what basis do you have for any of this? When was the last time you've been in a game with any of us?

Gee, all those random games I always get trounced *rolls eyes*, you get screwed sometimes, something you don't. I hardly find the captain thing as any better. Uhm, the way many have made it sound, it certainly isn't "friendly."
Opinions here? I have played games recently, but it was mostly with newer people, maybe a veteran or two, and still be somewhat friendly (but the same as it has been). I haven't played with most of the "Vets" because it always ends up being wayy too competitive (The few times I have).

I have thought about this same question recently and my personal opinion is that I was brought up a certain specific way in the CS:S community. CS:S is all about teamplay, fairness, and equality. This is by no means saying this is the right or wrong way to be brought up, but there is definitely a difference between the two games. Maybe it was wrong of me to presume that all TPG games shared these same attributes, but like I stated, this is just how I was brought up in this community. So maybe that answers your questions Red_Lizard. Maybe this is how other players feel also, maybe not.
Yes I'm new to this game, but I only ask questions and question the "etiquette" because I want to have the best gaming experience possible. I don't think there is any thing bad about all the new threads about "etiquette" or questions for the game. If anything this is a good thing. And now there are many stickies for new players to read so they are not totally lost when they first come to play.
