Nuclear Dawn Beta Server

Based on this thread Dedicated Servers - Steam Users' Forums it looks like they will allow people to create there own servers during the beta period. You can also find my thread on this game here http://www.teamplayergaming.com/game...lear-dawn.html which has built up a lot interest. I think this great opportunity to bring some new team players into the fold while game is fresh, and add some value to our resident TPG'rs who would love play at home. The game itself has a lot promise with a strong calling to team play. The beta looks to last from August 25th - Sept 25th when the game goes retail.

The sad thing about Nuclear Dawn is I feel it's going to be eclipsed by BF3. I still think we should give it a shot, though. However, not sure about Beta...

Obviously Nuclear Dawn will have a much smaller playerbase than BF3...

I would love to see a ND server from TPG, but I'm not sure how a dedicated server for the beta would work. Would enforcing TPG rules onto players who are trying to test be appropriate?

Anyways... I'm still hoping the game is good enough to pull me away from WWIIO:BE and become my main game, and if that happens I would prefer to play on a TPG server.

Why not, what do we lose by putting up a beta server? This has the potential to be a very good cheap game, the kind of things source games generally thrive on. Assuming there's a decent player base, I say go for it.

I think that standing up a Beta Server is a good idea.

Couple points is that it will allow people here who are interested to try it out amongst friends and fellow teamplayers.
It will all people that might be admin for it to get a hang of some of the games "things" before launch.
It will also bring in potential new players to TPG since we have a lot of "drive by players" on all of our other games and a percentage of those convert into "regulars"
It also seems layed out very similarly to 2142 in theme if not mechanic. Basically, this has the teamplay feel already.

If it is hosted for beta, I'd caution about coming down to hard from the admin standpoint as there are bound to be a decent number of new connections (think L4D/2) and it is beta after all so there will be kinks I am certain.

All in all, I say it's a no lose situation.

I don't see the issue with a beta server other than the possibly of it breaking due to it being beta. It would be nice to get in good with the Devs by expressing to them that we'd like to host it and what we as a community can do to help them(could possibly allow us to talk to them directly about things the game lacks that we would need to run the server our way). But mostly for our player base. I paid to be apart of this beta, so i'd like to play on a server that I know will be well admin...ed(word?)...

Same. This is a game that looks like it could be a great deal of fun, with very much a BF2 type ethos to it.

Like any game under consideration for hosting at TPG, we will need some sort of way to manage the server. If all they're offering is server files and no way to manage... it might not be cut out for TPG.
