    TPG LFD2 Future

Things are beginning to start rolling again around here with the addition of Shoutcasting. We have lost many players to new games, boredom, RL, and what not. The solid player-base that is keeping this (LFD2)community alive have broadened their horizons to the new mod Confogl. Though there are some, *cough*Kanati*cough* , who do not like the mod that much, there are still many who enjoy it or who are interested in getting into it.

IMO, this is where our future lies. Confogl is the main reason why we got into Shoutcasting. Let's be honest, no one wants to watch a regular match of RVS. Yes, this is a great starting ground for us, but I hope that we don't plan on only casting Pub RVS matches with players from our community for the next year. Confogl is the competitive scene for LFD2 and while many of you may say, "Oh damn I don't have time to be in a league or the competitive scene.", you don't have to. Many of the tourneys I see for Confogl are just weekend tourneys or tourneys just like the Confogl Light Cup, which two teams from TPG participated in(still participating in, go TPG#1!), which only require you to play once a week. You don't have to be online 24/7, practicing with your team and perfecting your skills. Well if you want to win the tourney you may have to put some time in...But the point is if we really want to go somewhere with Shoutcasting, we need to start getting into Confogl.

In the next couple days TPG will have the Confogl config setup on one of our servers and it would be great to have everyone starting to play it and get familiar with the new techniques and strategy involved. Confogl is as teamplay oriented as you can get in terms of working with your team and strategizing SI hits and Tank play.

If you have no idea about Confogl, but would like to learn post here so we know you are interested. Myself and I'm sure Thorsen, Blitz, Dawkins or anyone else who knows Confogl would love to hop on the TPG server and start teaching everyone what it's all about. Everyone who is involved with the Shoutcasting should really plan on hopping on with us, casters included. If you are planning on casting for TPG and our future tourneys, which some of them are bound to be Confogl, you NEED to have an understanding of the Confogl gameplay. There are many things that regular RVS players are naive to when it comes to Confogl and the strategy that is used...if you don't know what your talking about, the viewers(players that obviously play confogl) will not take our shoutcasts seriously.

I'm looking to keep this community alive and expand it. LFD3 is bound to come out sometime in the future and we will be 3 steps ahead of the game when it does come out. We will lose some players to boredom and RL, like we already have, but I'm here for the long haul. Are you? This is not only for our LFD2 community, but for TPG also. We can gain a lot of publicity from this if we do it right.

I would love to see a TPG hosted/sponsored tournament that is open to the entire L4D2 community. I think the opportunity to host and cast a full tournament would really help to grow not only the L4D section of the community, but TPG as a whole. We are still looking for volunteers for the SHOUTcasting team in all games, not just L4D2, so if you, or anyone you know, are interested in running camera or casting matches let us know.

While I commend the sudden kickstart in the L4D community here, Versus (in any form) is as teamplay oriented as you can get in terms of working with your team, strategizing SI hits, and Tank play. Confogl is just a mod of Versus. Dont make it any more than what it is...

    Re: TPG LFD2 Future

Why not just do the following to our RVS setup?

    "//versus_tank_flow_team_variation 0.0"
Refers to the variable chance of tank spawning in a different spot for each team. "0.0" = same spawn spot per team. "5.0" = 5% map distance variation CHANCE.

I know that doesn't address ALL of the complaints about RVS, but I think it tackles one of the biggest.

    Re: TPG LFD2 Future

I'm sorry I'll rephrase what I said. TO ME, Confogl is as teamplay oriented as you can get. The fact that Confogl is played at a competitive level with tourneys and such makes it more teamplay specific to me than any other LFD mod. I have played VS and RVS on TPG and yes you have to be very strategic with your SI and Tank play, but not as strategic as Confogl.

You know why, because when playing with TPG on RVS or VS, there is not as much thought put into attacks as Confogl. Everything is very calculated with confogl. Maybe it's not the difference between Confogl and RVS or VS, maybe it's the difference between TPG play and Confogl play. You think we are team oriented around here? Try playing with Confogl players. And that is the kind of atmosphere I want to bring around here. There are so many misconceptions about what is the right strategy. Sorry but I have to be blatant here, you don't know jack shit about what is a good SI hit if you haven't played with competitive players. You say that Versus is the most teamplay oriented, and confogl is just a mod of versus, so doesn't that make confogl just as teamplay oriented as versus? And with all the changes I think it's more teamplay oriented.

Tank every map: More strategy is involved. You just don't run in swinging and ignore what SI your team has like we do here at TPG with RVS and VS. Have to play "Line of Sight/Frustration", tank has to be able to throw rocks while the other 3 SI get hits. If you get a good boom you could move in with the Tank. Or you could wait to get a 3 cap with remaining SI. Hunter, Charger, Jokey. Tank goes in, gets one down, 3 SI move in for tri-cap. You don't get that kind of teamwork with RVS and VS....

No health kits, just pills: You have to be that much more aware of SI and infected. Covering teammates, unlike RVS and VS where a couple hits from common don't mean shit. Making to safe room with green health is huge bonus. Much more strategic then just trying to make safe room and everyone gets 25 points.

SI play: There is a rhyme and reason to the hits. It's just not everyone go in and try to get some damage. Boom usually leads. Charger gets separation or double, triple, quad charge. Spitter ALWAYS spits on charge. I don't even want to go into anymore detail, because there are so many ways of doing it and most of the times it depends on the situation and lineup you have.

These are all things that most of our RVS and VS players don't understand and will never understand until they play confogl. Just wait. I really hop we don't lose any players because they can't handle the competitive atmosphere of Confogl. Steathy already stated Confogl isn't for him. He plays to have fun and that's awesome. I love RVS and will always play it. I know for a fact that there are a lot of douchebags out there who may not be willing to go through the specifics with beginners, but if anyone ever wants to seriously learn and take the time to talk out hits and stuff while in-game, hit me up. I'm not a pro and I may not know everything about confogl strategy, but I'm willing to learn with you and teach you what I know.

I'm as teamplay oriented as you can get. That's all I want from gaming...to feel that comradery, to be communicating with your fellow teammates and achieving a common goal. Yes, I get that from RVS and VS, but it compares nothing to Confogl and all the strategy and teamplay that is involved in that game mod.

Oh and by the way Enf, have you ever played Confogl? Competitively?

No and I really dont plan to. Rather just play the damn game as is and stop trying to manipulate all aspects of it.

Well since you are apart of the population that has stopped playing and choose not even to play the "damn game" the way it is, I guess it doesn't matter. I don't plan on getting bored with this game and I am trying to expand our community since so many people have stopped playing. I thought that would be a good thing? But obviously there are so many people around here that are afraid of change.

I don't give a shit what is manipulated and who does it. All that matters to me is if I have fun with the game. I like these new changes that Confogl gives a player and there are many players who agree with me. Who are you to say that I shouldn't enjoy it. I'm not asking for RVS or VS to be removed so no one can play those modes. I'm asking that a config be setup that isn't even activated until a command is typed by both parties and you know this first hand. If you don't want to play confogl you don't have to, no one is forcing you. But like I said if your interested, speak up and I will play with you.

    Re: TPG LFD2 Future

I will be the first to admit that I am NOT an expert at any form of L4D, but with that being a given I do not feel confogl increases/decreases teamplay. I also don't think crits/no-crits, HC/non-HC, AWP/no-AWP, or any other settings affect teamplay. To your examples of comp play Blonde if you have two teams that are equally skilled and one plays confogl 24/7, and the other plays RVS 24/7 odds are each team would win when playing their own config should they play each other. By the same token if 4 of me played 4 of Dawkins or Thorsen then they would win every time no matter the config.

Confogl, or any other game mode/config, are first and foremost personal preference. Teamplay can and does exist regardless of server settings.
