Thread: Admin Kick - Fair or Unfair?

I'd like to start off by saying how much I've enjoyed playing on the TTP BF2142 server for the past two or three weeks. I like its rules about joining squads and such and usually find that team-oriented players are in my squad. I've also never seen anyone have any issues with the Admin, when I see someone get kicked its for being idle or for not being a squad (two obvious rules of the server).

That being said, I'm very sad to report that whilst playing a match less than an hour ago I had an unfortunate incident. I was (un)lucky enough to be the Commander of my team. All was well, I played one match as commander and then decided to go ahead and play the second match as the commander again because no one else applied for it. I knew and followed the rules about not driving any vehicles, fighting, made sure to use my mic to talk to the squad leaders, etc.

The problem came when the Admin =Y2K= SI42 joined the server. He created a one man squad under my team (presumably to listen to me or b/c he wanted to command a squad). I was in our titan hunkered down in the corner (because one allied player had been shooting me when he respawned in the titan) issuing orders/sat-tracking/etc when I see at the bottom of my screen that I am being kicked by an admin for "being idle." I consider myself a good player, and one that follows the rules so I was very unhappy to see that the reason for my kick was "idling."

In an effort to reconcile my situation I waited out my kick time (5 minutes I believe) and rejoined the server. Lo and behold, =Y2K= SI42 is now the Commander of my team. So I created a squad in an effort to talk to him. I asked him why he kicked me via voice chat and team chat, but he would not respond. I was not angry in my tone and I politely asked if I had broken any server rules, but he would still not respond. The lack of response led me to believe that perhaps he had kicked me so that he could become commander and would not own up to it. I will not accuse him of it because I have no evidence to support it, but that was the thought that crossed my mind.

My question is: Did I get kicked unfairly? Or was there a server rule that I broke without knowing it? Is it possible he thought I was idle because I was in the corner of the titan? Or is is possible that he thought I was [idle/not doing my job as commander] because he was not able to hear me on my mic (other squad leaders did respond to my voice commands though so I know my mic worked)?

I would like to resolve this issue so that I can either fix what I did wrong or perhaps keep others from befalling the same fate.

Thanks for posting.

If SI42 is an admin then he will be here to address the issue. I honestly do not know if he is or not.

It would be best for him to post before anyone starts commenting. That way people can read both sides of the story before arriving at any conclusions.

Having read the forums over the past hour or so I can see why =Y2K= SI42 did not respond to my pleas for answers. My guess would be that any of the other Admins would not have responded either and that whatever infraction I made I was lenient to receive only a kick on a TTP server.

I guess my main issue is that the reason given for the kick was idling when I was clearly not idle. If I was kicked because he didn't like my play style or commanding style that's a different issue all together.

Just thought I'd update after doing my own intel work on the forums.

How long were you in the Commander screen and your soldier immobile? What was the message you recieved?

There is an auotmated feature that kicks a player for being idle. I believe the amount of time needed to activate this feature is 5 minutes. Could this be what kicked you?

I'm sure this will be looked into, however I am almost positive that this was an automated kick and no action was taken on part of an admin.

Please continue to review this post for SI42 to post and any further developments.

I am pretty sure that both BF2 and BF2142 have a feature that protects the commander of a team from getting kicked due to the simple fact that the commander is expected to be stationary, commanding. I've played both games and commanded quite extensively on BF2, and I have never been kicked due to inactivity as a commander.

I'm just posting this to clear up this particular aspect of this discussion.

I believe MaBell37 is correct. The kick message said something along the lines of "You are being kicked by admin =Y2K= SI42 for: Being idle." I didn't have more than about 2 seconds to read it before I was booted so I'm not sure of the exact phrasing, but the message made it clear that it wasn't PB or the server it was an Admin.

It actually said who was kicking you?

Wurzz - I won't have access to the logs for a few more hours yet. I will look into this further after that point.

The commander spot should be filled by any admin or regular the moment it is noticed that it is empty. The team w/o a commander is typically at a disadvantage. I have watched the game far too many times for that to be disputed. However, if I have any admins working for me that kicked you just so they could be an admin, there will be issues.

MaBell - it has happened before on 2142 to commanders being booted for being idle. I don't know why movement inside of the commander's hood would not count towards "activity". But it seems that if the body of the soldier doesn't move, it is considered idle.

At this point, everything is purely speculation since I have not heard from the player in question nor able to see the logs. I am inclined to think that there is another answer though. Everytime I issue an administrative command, you will not see a name attached to the action.

Yes I did kick you, I was on the server and I asked you many times what you wanted me to do?
I then sent a broadcast message to all the squad leaders if they had heard from you in the past little while.
I was told that you had not said a thing in several minutes.
In this time you showed up as dead for the whole time I was in the server. I warned you once maybe twice, that you can not command and be idle.
So I kicked you. Then low and behold at the time I sent the order to be kicked you started to send out orders. But by then it was to late.
I remember when you got back on the server and made your own squad I tried to talk to you and tell you why I kicked you I received no responce.
I assume from what your posting here that you may have something wrong with your mic. I was going to give up the commander seat if you was going to command and not be AFK. But again you said nothing to me. I know my mic was working because everyone else heard me.
You may want to get your mic checked out.

I didn't have a problem with you in any way. We as a team had heard nothing from you so in order to keep the teamplay going I removed you from the server.

Second I only took the Commandership because once I kicked you, I knew there would be no commander. So I did it only to finish the round.
I don't like doing the Commander thing in the first place, but I really could not see letting anyone command that according to what I could see was AFK.
Now is you appearing dead a glitch?
Is what I did admin abuse?
That I leave up to the higher ups.
I did what I was asked to do.
