Admin changing map due to personal dislike?
Okay guys, foreward before I type this post out:
A) I've waited a few hours to type this...I played a few more rounds and went and ate a delicious dinner to cool my head and make sure I have this all worded right.
B) I do not want this to be an argument, merely me stating how I perceived what happened on CS:S server earlier.
C) I probably won't even post on this any more, to prevent an argument, so if an admin locks this as soon as it's read, I'll be more than happy with it.
Okay, so we were playing Office earlier this evening, a few hours ago, and having a good 'ole time...It comes down to only five minutes left, and the vote comes up for next map....we vote, and it passes, to have an extension!!
A few minutes later, a vote comes up "Do you want to change the map?" Well, the result of that vote was "NO!" so we're all happy, "woo hoo! more office!"
Even though the result of that vote was no, a few more minutes later, a "choose the next map" vote is started by the admin anyways!! Luckily, the next round starts, and the vote goes away without any votes, and is nullified....
The admin starts yet ANOTHER vote a few rounds later to change the map....
So my problem is that after TWO votes gave a server-wide majority "Hey, lets stay here in office!" the admin decided to keep putting votes up until the map changed....
I refuse to publicly name any names of suspected people/admins that might be responsible, but I do have a screenshot of the players who were playing at the time I'll be willing to PRIVATELY send to the higher-ups....
Basically, I'm just a lil flamed that the admin kept putting votes up due to his personal distaste of the current map....
If thats part of being an admin, then please, ignore this post, but otherwise, it just seems like what the server wants is what should happen, I mean, isn't that what voting is for?

Re: Admin changing map due to personal dislike?
were there a lot of people on?
an admin will often change the map to one that traditionally fills a server

again, contact me PRIVATELY (steam friends, PM, AIM) and I'll send the screenshot...
I just don't wanna risk:
A) outing an admin
B) making a personal issue public.

Technically, an admin can put up as many votes as they want. The players have final say... but the admin can always put up a vote.
This is NOT admin abuse. If you have a specific example of the admin changing the map to go against the vote, let us know. From a player perspective... sometimes the votes can get... annoying. Either keep voting, or just ignore the votes. All in all it really is just part of being an admin.
Also, maybe the admin on duty had already played office a number of times today and wanted a break from the same crap all over again... not sure, but it is possible.

Re: Admin changing map due to personal dislike?
I try to keep this from becoming a flame war like every other post, but apparently that doesn't fly....

Screenshot of players on at the time.
I have good reason to believe, as cool of a guy as he is, it was Death Adder.
So just so I'm clear, you're saying in theory, an admin could do votes back-to-back-to-back until the result he wanted passed? Basically annoy the server into voting his way?

Re: Admin changing map due to personal dislike?
I believe I recall what happened here. We had played almost a full round of office, there was 5 min left as you said or so and I believe there was an extension vote, but not 100% sure. I do recall talking with another admin(s) at the time about putting up a change map vote b/c the timing of the map vote i believe was really bad (ie) beginning of the round - and so we just wanted to make sure that it was accurate.
So that admin then put up a change map vote - which if I recall the No's won by a small margin. Since the margin was small enough 1-2 votes, a few rounds later we decided to put up another vote to give the option of a new map with the option extension as well. That vote did not go through because of the round change, so we put it up again - again with an extension vote on it as well. This time by a majority the map was voted to be changed.
When votes are very close sometimes it is better to re-vote 1 or 2 times just so people don't just push in 1 automatically just to get it off their screen depending of the situation.
I would not change a map soley on the basis of my personal disliking for it. However, if I/We as admins feel that the flow of the server indicates a map change be needed based on votes, people dropping off, people complaining verbally over the mic, etc - then we will do what is necessary. The admins on at that time felt that another vote(s) at that time were necessary.
In no way was the map vote's intention to annoy you or any other player on the server. Many times, when you have a lot of non-regs on it can take a few map votes to get things accurate. Apparently you felt distraught and annoyed enough to make an admin abuse post. I'm sorry you feel that way but that was not the intention.

Re: Admin changing map due to personal dislike?
Thx Scrum...
I, for one, did not understand until talking to an admin that there really are a good handful of y'all...and that y'all are ACTIVELY console-chatting w/each other.
All I could ever tell is y'all say "there is always an admin on" to scare people, because reg's always get admins to log on, lol...
Again, I meant no disrespect by this, as it was more of a "whoah, how do things work behind the scenes??" post than anything.
The only thing I'm flamed about still is that me trying to be courteous and respectful by not dragging names around is percieved asOriginally Posted by DeusInnomen

Oh, and can we get a mod to lock this?
