I'm making a new topic so that the old one doesn't become too bloated. Mostly I just want to see what other peoples' impressions are of the "other" TF2, since I can't afford to drop $45 for the TF2 beta right now.
For me, it's kinda fun so far. I never really played much of the original TFC, so I'm not intimately familiar with the classes and maps and differences between TFC's version of CTF compared to, say, UT's. I will say that it looks pretty damned nice for an amateurish mod, and runs fairly well. I get a little more framerate slow-down with lots of people on-screen compared to DoD, but it's nothing horrendous or unplayable.
As far as classes go, I've only spent time with Pyro and Soldier (since those are more than likely going to be the classes I play in TF2), and it seems to me that the Pyro's flamethrower is excessively weak. In order to bring down a Soldier or HWG, which the hint system specifically says it's strong against, I have to train it on them for a good long while. During this time, I'm in nearly point-blank range, which makes me wonderfully vulnerable to shotguns, and apparently being engulfed in chemical flames does nothing to hinder your accuracy or slow your movement. The incendiary cannon is loads of fun, and the shotgun is... a shotgun. Incendiary grenades are a blast and pretty handy for slowing down people chasing me when I'm running away with the flag.
The Soldier's rocket launcher behaves somewhat similarly to UT's rocket launcher, though it's not nearly the same. The super shotgun and shotgun are, well, shotguns. Soldier will probably be the class I use for FF if I continue playing it, since Pyro seems excessively weak in comparison. I hear that the flamethrower is the most powerful close-range weapon in the game in TF2, so hopefully I'll be able to fuel my inner pyromaniac there.

As a pyro, you simply have to catch the other guy on fire and you can duck and run. Unless they find a medic or water they will die. So really, you don't have to keep flaming the soldier and heavy, the classes that bring the pain, to kill them. Set them ablaze and bail. The pyro is also good for shock attacks, cram some soldiers and heavys behind you when you are in a choke point and kick up the flame. People will run from the flame even if it won't kill them right away. and when the demoman explodes you or you get sniped, the heavys and soldiers open up and bring the pain. It really is a beautiful sight.
On FF I have mainly been playing Heavy, Sniper, and Scout.

I have TF2 but I've still been planning on checking this out just to compare it to TF/TFC. You're correct that the Pyro is now more powerful in TF2. Tractor is spot on with his Pyro tactics as well. Light them on fire and then get some distance and blast away with the shotgun.

Fixes for infected.
-Make infected automatically heal with slow rate.
-Make shove only against common infected and not functional against specials.
-Make boomer FUCKING START TO ATTACK FASTER.
-Make boomer be able to explode when he wants to.
-Make 2 hits for tongue to drop it instead of 1.

-Make boomer be able to explode when he wants to.-Or at least explode from fewer melees
-Make 2 hits for tongue to drop it instead of 1.-Tongue itself could be tougher, still think it should be just one melee hit on a survivor to free them

From the survivors point of view though - this miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight not be so great.
It favors SI waaaay to much. Dont get me wrong, I love being infected...But everybodys gotta play as a survivor fun time....anyway thats my 2 cents for this thread...
p.s. yno what I miss?...the hunter doing 10 dmg per slash...THAT was awesome....

No the survivors will win by hiding in corners/wide open spaces with auto shotguns and melee spam.
Which is why the SI need an advantage,
Survivors have there corners, closets, Gas canisters propane oxygen tanks, molotovs and AS that kills us in 1-2 hits (Same with pistol), while SI have only the tank and three hunters that can kill them...
