    Re: Favorite classes

Voted soldier and spy. "I play what the team needs" is kind of a cop-out when we're talking about our favorite classes. No doubt we all pick something the team needs but everyone has a favorite surely.

Soldier - because I like to make stuff dead. With the right placement of rockets you can take down groups of enemies and you can take down sentries at range or from cover.

Spy - because I enjoy the psychological element. Sneaking around and causing panic and chaos is entertaining, as well as completely fooling enemies and just hanging around providing intel while you wait for team support. It's getting increasingly more difficult to have success as a spy and I enjoy the challenge. I have a couple new tricks up my sleeve that I guess I'll have to add to my article..

I'd have to say Spy and Soldier are the most effective classes in my opinion.

    Re: Favorite classes

Pyro and Medic. The playstyles are relatively similar; as Pyro, you need to stay close to your target and spray them with fire while using your speed to try and stay out of their line of fire. With medic, you need to stay close to your target to keep them healed while using your speed to dodge incoming fire.

I do think that Pyro needs help; while every now and then you get one of those room-clearing stunts that make everyone cry nerf (these usually involve flamethrower crits, btw), on the whole I think the class is a little underpowered, especially considering how stupidly good Soldier is.

Personally, I think increasing the burn damage would do the trick without breaking the theme of the class (replacing the shotgun with a more medium-range weapon like SMG would break the theme and increasing the Pyro speed would make it even easier for them to dominate Scouts and Spies.) It's already very easy to stop the burning; on maps with deep bodies of water like 2Fort and Well, just dive in. On maps without water, just go find a medkit. And on any map, any Medic can stop the burning with a few seconds of healing. I do think that if you really roast someone, they should die unless they get prompt attention, regardless of class. Nothing is more annoying than flanking a Soldier and roasting him for four seconds before he kills you, only to see him live because he has a lot of HP and the burn damage is meaningless.

medic, and whatever the team needs.

I love just following around a heavy/solgier and letting them do the work while I heal them, but I will swich I the team needs other positions.

Heavy! I love being in the thick of things with all that firepower, and the Soldier just isn't as fun for me because I don't like using the rocket launcher. If a Heavy isn't needed, I usually go Medic because it's such a critical role and because I love being able to turn things around for teammates or the whole team... also, syringe gun kills are immensely satisfying.

The exception is 2Fort, a map on which I find being on the offense to be a chore for the most part. On that map I don't want to be anything other than Engineer, or Pyro if there are enough engies already.

    Re: Favorite classes

Scout and Solider, mostly. I like moving so fast as a Scout because it makes me feel like I'm accomplishing more. Plus in certain situations the scattergun can own. Coming up behind a heavy you have a 50/50 chance of taking him down. I even took down a L3 sentry the other day, that was something I never thought possible. I wish the stats tracked captures because I have a lot, sometimes you don't even have to fight for them if you slip by un-noticed.

But in a lot of situations, against good opponents, the Scout will be rendered useless so I go for the rocketman. I'm still getting used to these rockets though, I haven't done rocket combat since Quake (1) years ago and with the slow fire and reload speed I am still not quite used to it.

    Pretty good at spy.

Although I like soldier and demoman, I will play what the team needs generally.

Demoman is just so satisfying. Setting the perfect trap, then watching all those gibs go flying like I just burst open a pinata.
