    F**K HYDRO RESPAWN TIMES

    HONESTLY THIS SHIT IS RETARDED.

IT ALWAYS GOES TO SD IF THE TEAMS ARE EVEN.

RESPAWN RATES ARE NEARLY INSTANT UNLESS SOMETIMES THEY RANDOMLY JUMP TO 15 SECONDS.

    WHY?

SOME ONE GIVE ME AN EXPLANATION FOR RESPAWN TIMES ON HYDRO. PLEASE.

LINKS, PROOF, CHARTS AND GRAPHS AND SHIT. THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE.

    RUINS THIS MAP.

    [/rant]

    Discuss. Seriously though.

Agreed, Hydro has retarded spawn times, I don't think I've ever played it without sudden death.

I mean, Joe doesn't have the metal to keep his sentry up at the enemy spawn unless the respawns are consistent :4 lol, Joe's offense-engineer skills FTW.

    Here ya go, joe...

No fancy graphs, just a quote from Robin Walker.

    From http://mentalvga.blogspot.com/2008/0...f-instant.html

We’re big fans of respawn waves, for a variety of reasons, and wouldn’t have put them in at all if we didn’t think they were an overall positive impact on the game. All the TF2 maps were balanced with them in mind, which is one of the main reasons why instant respawn servers are so heavily weighted towards the defenders in maps like Dustbowl & Goldrush.

    Robin.
Note the mention of respawn waves... Meaning the game adjusts respawn times to make more people spawn at once, which promotes team work. Imagine you die when everyone else on your team is alive... You get the longest possible respawn, but it gets shorter the more of you are dead.

    Hope this helps.

I say this everytime someone bitches about this in game and I will say it here.

The respawn times are the default settings.

TTP likes to stick with what the developers intended for the games. It's almost like they designed it to play the way they wanted it to be.

I personally like the respawn waves in Hydro. They let you (if you are communicating with your team) to organize a wave that pushes the enemy CP.

If you feel so strongly about it then put up solid, unbiased and well written poll and see what the players think.

Everyone gripes about respawn times because they just want to get back into the fight. This isnt DM. I would say if you dont like the respawn times, then dont die as much. Crazy impatient kids with their...... VDs....

    Re: F**K HYDRO RESPAWN TIMES

I understand that TTP has defaults on. I am not bitching about taking too long til respawn, I am bitching about respawns being seemingly random and predominantly instant.

I WISH I would take longer to respawn on Hydro, I WISH I knew the tactics/strategy surrounding making the other team respawn longer.

Last night, I sniped out the enemy sniper on Hydro. Went back for cover, and popped out again 5 seconds later, AND WAS SNIPED BY THE GUY I JUST KILLED. He had respawned and Gone back to the spawn door and killed me in 5 seconds. How can a team win (or lose) under these conditions

The best strategy I have found is by using a Kritzkrieg on a heavy to kill about 4-5 of their teammates at once and then rushing the point. Even then its a 50/50 win

MY real question: And I can answer this for any other TF2 map except Hydro.
What triggers the enemy to have a longer respawn time on Hydro?

    Re: F**K HYDRO RESPAWN TIMES

Here is my understanding of it:

Player 1 dies when no one else on their team is dead.. They have a 20 second respawn.

Player 2 dies three seconds later. They have a 17 second respawn.

Player 3 dies 18 seconds after Player 1. They have a 2 second respawn.

Player 4 dies somewhere between 20 and 25(?) seconds after Player 1. They respawn instantly.

It is the last instance of player 4 that confuses me. But as far as I can tell if you die close enough to one of your teams 'waves' then you respawn instantly to 'catch up' to that wave.

    From that thread

In most 5-cap maps (badlands, granary, well, etc.) If you have more points controlled you have a shorter respawn time.

If you die while the an enemy is standing on your control point you get a respawn penalty.

Defenders have a longer respawn time in general compared to attackers (mostly to compensate for the shorter walking distance that defenders have). And the rule above also applies for attack/defense maps.

Respawns are done in waves, so sometimes you will die just in time to catch a wave, and other times you will just miss it, accounting for those sometimes long/short respawn times.

The only map who's respawn time I don't understand is Hydro. None of the above rules seem to work, and I will arbitrarily get 20 second respawns (rarely), and 90% of the time have a 0 second respawn (which is why there are so many stalemates on this map.)

    Ah yes, this old chestnut.
