Spy Update Opinions

The spy has been modified greatly over last couple of months and I've notice no thread about it. So what does everyone thing?

Agent, have you seen all of the fun changes made to spies though like recharging your cloak by picking up metal (also works with enemy dispensers), the ability to see the names of the enemies you see, and the ability to change the weapon your enemies see you carrying?

Being able to see the names of enemies and their health when disguised is the biggest thing they did for this "mini-patch". Being able to avoid close combat when 2 revolver rounds will do the trick is a great help by increasing their long range threat level.

The worst thing about this patch is that you can track fully cloaked enemy spies by having your crosshair on them when you're disguised... Broken, IMO.

Ammo being able to replenish the spys cloak is the best improvement bar none. With the recent attempts to fix facestabs, they have completely fucked up the backstab, blatant backstabs are often invalid now =/

Being able to switch your display weapon has some perks, but its not super. Being able to see enemy team names is nice if you want to see a medics uber level, pick on someone in particular (pizza shark), or take out players you know are good. All in all no major reform will come until the spy update, which can either make or break it.

The backstab mechanics have been changed a bit, so adjustment is needed. It fixes many problems with the backstab, so save your judgments until you've got the new shit down.

I dislike the shown weapon being tied to what weapon you are holding - people running around with melee weapons are pretty obvious. This means the spy has to keep his revolver out a lot more than he would normally (I think; I'm not exactly a pro spy), and lowers the opportunities for quick reflex stabs should they present themselves.

Actually, the weapon only changes when you hit B. Tonight, I was definitely showing the enemy that I had different categories of weapons out then I was really holding (primary, secondary, and melee).

Yeah, I've had to rewrite my disguise scripts to take into account the weapon thing, but other than that it's a pretty welcome change. Engineers with shotguns out around sentries were always a dead giveaway, much easier to get into a multi engi nest and cause some chaos now. 8)

New update sucks. I can't camp spawn doors, I can't do effective aerial stabs anymore, I have to stalk people for ages to get within range of them, I keep misjudging the backstab range, etc. :2
