    Possible Flaregun buff!

This thread on the steam forums indicates that valve may be considering adding a mini crit to the flaregun on burning players. I for one would welcome the change.

I am a little worried about the proliferation of crits in the future though. I think crits should be awarded due to skillful play, and landing a flare is skillful, but where does it end? I really don't want TF2 to go the way of CS 1.6 where you had to learn to head shot every time in order to even pull a 1:1 kdr on a pub. As much as I loved CS 1.6 I hated that most of my friends never got into because it was too hard for a new player.

I'm confused, will it be a mini crit if you headshot them like the ambassador? That sounds cool if so..

But if they mean mini crit when you hit someone that is already burning or just in general with a body shot, that sounds like this minicrit thing is going too far, no offense. What's next, make the soldier shotgun mini crit if the enemy was just hit by a rocket?

again? They just buffed it! I'm thinking our ACE snipers at TTP are gonna start playing pyro soon, especially after watching how good bloodsire is...I would if I was an ace sniper.

I might use the flare gun in this case...

Pyros have too many toys as it is. :P Although you seem quite adept at using a Flaregun.

I would welcome more mini-crits for the weaker classes, say if one of the Medic's guns was included in an update. I would even go back to the basic Syringegun (as opposed to the Blutsauger, which doesn't crit yet is a no-brainer) if I could rack up some tasty mini-crits, which—I am told—are sugar-frosted.

Change it to hit for 50 damage instead of 30 if the target's already ignited.

    40 actualy.

An extra 10 damage is nice, but it ain't gonna be changing much. If you don't like the flares to begin with you probably still won't. If you do like them now they can kill 2 seconds faster.

Your comment reminds me a lot of my years of unreal tournament, specifically UT2k4.

Due to the dodging abilities in the game, experienced players were able to dodge out of the way of the projectiles from all but 2 of the weapon in the game. As a result, playing in a server comprised of experienced players, in order to frag, one would have to skillfully place projectiles by predicting an enemies movement. This had a two-faced result, new players could not come into the game and dominate with ridiculous jump and weapon spamming, giving experienced players the upper hand. On the other hand, new players were heavily deterred from playing the game, in fact only stubborn players seemed to be the ones to stick out the several week learning curve before they could start intentionally getting frags. Ultimately, among many other reasons, this deterrent lead to the eventual downfall and death of the ut2k4 community.

All in all, i do have to say though, the time I spent playing UT2k4 was easily the most fun I have ever had in a game.

    Re: Possible Flaregun buff!

UT2k4 is still the greatest shooter ever made. It has a hell of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of dodging and aiming accurately while dodging, it's incredibly fun.

The minigun was always the most noob-friendly gun, since it was one of the few hitscan weapons in the game.

    Re: Possible Flaregun buff!

I liked the original the best but yeah, the best thing about the series was that it had an even blance of weapons, not all hitscan with 1 or 2 projectile like many games nowadays do...
