And I have to say this is about the most pansy ass thing to do ever. Even worse then achievement servers. At least with an achievement server you have to go into the server and get all 'slimy' by dealing with all the other achievement whoring assholes of the internet (speaking from experience of doing it for the pyro update). You may get your items, but you sacrifice your self-respect and come away feeling dirty. If you can deal with that then more power to you, the unlocks are yours.

This... you just load a program and poof, magically you have items when you next start the game.

Candy ass fucking move made by people who have no self-respect.

And you can whine and bitch and moan all you want about how unfair the random item drop scheme is. But guess what, you can ignore it and just go for the achievements and get the unlocks that way. So quit whining and play the fucking game.
